Brazilian Black Bean Stew

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2011
Great dish. For large gatherings, I make two batches simultaneously, one with more meat, the other without any. Vegetarians and kids who don't like anything spicy are happy with one, meat and spice lovers the other. Cut up everything in advance, buy some bread, make some lemonade, and you're at the table stress free in no time.

Baked Soy Lemon Chops

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2011
Great. Cooked in the marinade (same glass dish). Good flavor. Did seem too salty - but don't think it would have if I hadn't poured the juices over the accompanying coucous. Poured a little orange juice over final plate too.

Simple Cauliflower Soup

Reviewed: May 14, 2011
Decent soup. Maybe 3 star, but I have to just add one for simplicity. Always welcomed. And it's nice to have a semi-sohpisticated soup you can also puree for the kids.

Terrific Turkey Chili

Reviewed: May 14, 2011
Hubby loved it and so did I. That says a lot, because it means it struck the right balance spice-wise. He usually likes things much spicier than I do. Will make this again!

White Bean, Spinach, and Barley Stew

Reviewed: May 14, 2011
This was yummy, but too eaily overcooked for our family chaos. Gets a bit mushy if not stopped at right time - and that makes freezing/reheating a challenge later.

Make-Ahead Sour Cream Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2013
Baked this for a bake sale on a shopping area sidewalk. It sold well and several shoppers returned to buy more, issue compliments, and ask for recipe. It's not unusual or spectacular - just exactly what folks expect from a great coffee cake.

Addictive Sweet Potato Burritos

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2013
Enjoyed this for one meal, then for several lunches after freezing in paper towels/baggies. It's a distinctive taste/texture, so I do recommend freezing, since too much in one week would degrade the initial interest.

Watermelon Gazpacho

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2013
Reached consistency of true Andalusian gazpacho by using only 1 and 1/4 cup OJ, processing half of the watermelon and dicing the rest, along with half of a cantaloupe. Did not reduce cilantro. Served as a starter in margharita glasses with very large croutons (day old french bread) and a Spanish white wine.

Sweet Corn Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2013
Great for potluck, block party, etc. because it's moist enough to be tasty in a few hours. I usually make my cornbread more cake-like than this super-moist recipe (it nearly has a bread pudding consistency). That said, I brought both to a block party and the moist version was better, especially for eating solo (without chili ladled over it).
