Sherry's German Turkey

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2011
This was OUTSTANDING! I hate turkey, I only take it because I am obligated to one day a year, I geerally approach the Thanksgiving table focused on the side dishes. However, this recipe changed my life. I discovered I love turkey today as long as I make it this way. It's no wonder why bacon is everyone's best friend. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe!!!

This was amazing! And it is an excellent make ahead meal. It sat in my fridge for 3 days before I baked it off and it turned out great. Thanks for sharing!

Mom's Baked Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2009
I didnt find this recipe to have much taste, it was rather bland. But it was easy and kept well in the fridge.

Easy Candy Yams

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
Excellent! Very rich and rewarding. However, along from the other reviewers suggestions, I must stress DO NOT USE BUTTER. You will wind up pouring it off, its not needed at all except to butter the dish. Also, a tip, if you travel with this dish, dont add the marshamllows until you get to your destination and throw it into the oven to warm it up. I baked mine in the morning and let the dish completely cool before traveling and the marshmallows still melted, so we didnt have a yummy gooey topping for mine. Dont do them until RIGHT before serving.

Cassata Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2003
YUCK! This was awful and didnt taste like any canolli I've ever tasted in my 27 years(and I'm from Philly and now live in NYC where there are awesome italian bakeries and restaurants). Using semi-sweet chocolate on the top was not a good idea because the filling wasnt sweet enough to offset the bitterness of the chocolate. Also, I found that the filling didnt thicken enough, it was way too runny. I wouldnt recommend this to anyone.

Pumpernickel Spinach Dip II

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2003
Quite good. For added 'umph' I crumbled a small batch of bacon into mine. Like my friend says "porkfat=good". My only complaint was that I made it a day in advance and it was very stiff when I went to use it. I wouldnt recommend doing this, you should make it as close to serving time as you can, this I think will keep it light and fluffy.

Red Skinned Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2003
Very good recipe. Such a nice twist on an old standard at our family picnics. The bacon is the key, and also chopping the onion and celery very finely. Thanks for sharing!

Mom's Brown Potatoes

Reviewed: May 5, 2003
Excellent! I have made these a bunch of times and they are always a big hit with my husband. Thanks so much for sharing as I had no clue how to fry a potato by myself and I needed a good use for my cast iron skillet!

Velveeta® Cheesy Beef Stroganoff

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2003
Very tasty! Next time I would probably just use the entire 1lb of velveeta and maybe only half a can of the soup, so it was more cheesey than soupy tasting, but I will make it again. Super easy meal for a weeknight and very filling.

Candied Carrots

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2003
Excellent! I used carrots from a can instead of fresh and it turned out just as well. I was even able to feed them to 17 month old daughter, who isnt a big plain carrot fan, and she gobbled these up. Thanks for sharing!

Vodka Rigatoni

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2003
Wow-wee! This was AWESOME! I messed up and put the cheese in at the beginning, but it made no difference, it was still great. And I used another posters tip and sliced up some fresh garlic instead of using the garlic powder. I served this to my father-in-law who is a chef (try not being self conscious about your cooking when you're serving a professional!)and he gave many a compliment and said he would serve it in his restaurant. Angela thanks so much for sharing!

House Fried Rice

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2003
Excellent! I omitted the shrimp because I didnt have any and it was just as good as I imagine it would be with the shrimp. This is a great recipe for people, like me, who dont have a wok. It isnt necessary at all. Thanks so mcuh for sharing this delicious and super healthy meal.

Broccoli and Cauliflower Casserole

This was a favorite with my family for years, but when my Aunt passed away she took the recipe with her. Thank you so much for helping me find it again! My family was greatly pleased and I handed the recipe out to everyone so it wouldnt get lost again. Thanks so much Bridget!

Caramelized Brussels Sprouts with Pistachios

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2002
This was good, although I would suggest only using the smaller sprouts, when they are at their sweetest. I used a mixture of large and small and the carmelizing didnt get rid of the bitterness of the larger sprouts. Everyone liked this though, and I woudl probably make it again.

Green Beans for a Special Occasion

Pretty, good. I think maybe needed more garlic and I followed the cooking time and my beans werent quite tender enough, but everyone at my Christmas Eve table loved them, especially the pine nuts.

Cranberry Raspberry Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2002
Quite good, not for children because of the liquor involved, but all the adults at Thansgiving liked it. I only gave it 4 stars because although it wasnt bitter like regular cranberry sauce, it was quite tart and it hurt my teeth, so I highly recommend taking a small amount at first until you see if you like it, no sense in wasting valuable space on your Thanksgiving plate with something you may not enjoy!
