Scrambled Eggs Done Right

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2011
I really didn't like care for this at all. The mayo didn't want to blend into the egg mixture so I had little mayonnaisy clusters in the egg. Maybe it would have tasted better if that didn't happen, but a strong taste of mayo is really not what I want in my eggs. I think it's better to stick with the tried and true eggs and milk. Sorry :(

Roast Sticky Chicken-Rotisserie Style

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2011
This was a perfect roast chicken, and it was so easy! I would have liked to follow this recipe exactly, but I was missing a few ingredients...onion powder, cayenne pepper, and onions. I also didn't have 5 hours, so I increased the heat to 170C (220C for the first 10 minutes to crisp up the skin) and cooked it for almost 2 hours. I boiled potatoes in chicken broth, and then used 1 cup of the broth and 2 tbs corn starch to make a gravy, which was really, really good. My husband is slipping into a food coma from eating too much... I will definitely make this again, and follow the recipe exactly...but it's hard to imagine it will get any better!

Amazingly Easy Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2011
The best thing about this bread is the crust. Others mentioned sprinkling brown sugar over the top when they baste it, and that does make it taste better, but it makes it more of a dessert bread than a dinner bread. I like to put a few dashes of salt in the baste mixture instead....it goes with the sweet-ish taste of the bread really well and tastes like a nice dinner bread. This recipe made two large loaves for me, so next time I will half it. I made one loaf and refrigerated the rest for 2 days, and the dough changed. It was not very good. I would recommend making whatever amount you need at once and not saving any.

Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2011
This was great! The gravy is really the best part. I doubled it, and I still want to make more....it would be good on a lot of things. I think the quality of your ground beef is probably important here. I didn't have cooking sherry or onions so I left those out, and I used regular salt because I don't like seasoned salt. This is a recipe you can mess with to your liking and still have the same basic great thing. I boiled some potatoes in beef broth to go with it. Even my picky husband said this tasted like something you would get at a really good restaurant!

Debdoozie's Blue Ribbon Chili

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2011
This chili was just what I wanted in chili....nothing funky, nothing I never expected to be in chili....just standard, good chili. It was a little bit spicy for us, but I can never be totally sure how close my version is to the original, because we live in Germany and the ingredients are sometimes a little different, like the chili seasoning. I added a little more tomato sauce, because it was a little bit thick. Next time I will add less chili seasoning. This chili wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was the best I've made and I will make it again. It's perfect for hotdogs!

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies I

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2011
These cookies are excellent, but they should definitely come with a disclaimer: **If you do not have mixing equipment, the batter is REALLY hard to stir!** My arms are exhausted from stirring, even after I added almost a cup of milk. The milk (which the recipe did not call for) also contributed to my cookies being flat as pancakes instead of nice and chunky like in the picture. Bottom line- excellent cookies if you have mixing equipment or a really strong man!

Tuna Noodle Casserole from Scratch

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2011
We are Americans living in Germany, and Germans put tuna on EVERYTHING! Pizza, salad, anything... Because of that, my tuna-sandwich loving husband didn't really want me to make this for dinner, but he still went back for seconds. It didn't blow me away or anything, but it was really good. The sauce was the best part. Next time I make this I will try substituting canned chicken instead of tuna and seasoning with a little more salt. Thanks for the recipe! UPDATE: This actually gets better and better after sitting for a day or two, and it freezes well too. I previously rated it 4 stars but I'm upping it to five because of that.

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2011
Definitely an excellent lasagna, but you have to like sausage. I do and I love this, but my husband doesn't like sausage as much as I do and he thought the sausage flavor was overpowering. I would definitely make this recipe again, but next time I will try it with just beef. The cheese mixture is awesome!!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2011
These were the best chocolate chip cookies I've ever made, and I couldn't even stick completely to the recipe. I didn't have brown sugar so I just used white sugar for the full amount. I also didn't have as many chocolate chips as I wanted (they're not as common here in Germany) so I did half chocolate chips and half chocolate sprinkles. I had to cook them about 20 minutes before they firmed up enough. They're still cooling so hopefully they'll be as good tomorrow but the one I stole off the pan was AWESOME. Will definitely plan ahead and try this recipe like it's supposed to be next time.

Rotisserie Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2011
Best rotisserie chicken I've ever made...this is one of our favorite things to eat. I put less paprika than the recipe called for (maybe about 1/2) because I didn't know if my husband likes paprika. I also added a few dashes of garlic salt. I melted all the seasonings together in a pan on the stovetop and rolled the chicken around in it after it cooked for 10 mins. The seasoning was really good....has kind of a salty tangy-ness. We will definitely make this again. UPDATE: I always make this in my toaster oven (it has a rotisserie attachment) and it's perfect. Sometimes I alternate seasonings with the "Roast sticky chicken" recipe by Sue Rogers, on this website, for some variety, and stick a lemon in the middle. Cooking chicken this way is the best!
