About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I love slow cooking, and I love spices. Especially indian flavors. I find great joy in roasting and grinding my own spices.
My favorite family cooking traditions
my family likes to eat a lot of junk. I think I am the only one who enjoys vegetables!
My cooking triumphs
probably thanksgiving in 05. i went out the night before and had a little too much to drink. I came home and pre-prepared what I could, but I had left the turkey on the floor in the kitchen. I went to sleep really early in the morning and woke up to my thanksgiving guests (12 family members) knocking at my door... The reason why this is a triumph rather than a tragedy is because I managed to pull it off. everyone had a great time and enjoyed their dinner, regardless of how hung over I was...
My cooking tragedies
This one goes to my husband... his orange chicken, ew. it was awful

Al Kabsa - Traditional Saudi Rice and Chicken
Something was definetly missing from this dish. Too much spice without a warm undertone. I found myself adding chicken bullion and then trying to compensate by squeezing lime over it

Amazing Italian Lemon Butter Chicken
This was great. At first i thought it would be too lemon-y... but it went well. It was a pain to measure fresh squeezed lemon juice... however i would not use lemon juice from concentrate. Next time i will leave out the bacon and add more artichoke for personal prefference. The bacon after a while seemed soggy and fatty so i ended up picking the bacon out of each bowl i had.

Ten Minute Szechuan Chicken
this was good. I did add green pepper, onion, ginger and xtra sugar. i'll think twice next time when it comes to ordering chinese take out. i loved how the sauce thickened up with the cornstarch..
