Burger Time with a Vegetarian

Today will be interesting!  My family would go on a revolt if I tried to sell them on vegetarian grilling.  As luck would have it our friends' vegetarian daughter has agreed to join us for dinner tonight!  Yippee!  I pulled two recipes; one for vegetarian burgers (I bought Boca) and the other for Portabella Burgers.  I made portabella burgers once to top a beef burger that I made.  The Portabella "burger" was AWESOME!  At any rate, I'm eating vegetarian tonight and I bet I'll be joined by others!

To keep with the vegetarian offerings (aside from offering beef burgers for non-veggie-lovers) I'm serving up hummus, a cucumber and feta dip and Greek onion dip to go with the fresh veggies.  That should provide excellent snack fare through the Bridge session!

Now off to clean the kitchen and prep the food for tonight!  I'll be back with a report on how the food turned out.

Be interesting to hear how it went. Made my first veggie burger this week and loved it! The teen took one look and said he wished I'd stopping looking at this site since I now make weird food! Am working on perfecting the recipe. Gave up on my carnivores!!

I love eating veggie! When I am alone that is what I do. I have to feed Grumpy meat & potatoes although he has been a real good sport lately and trying the dishes I do make that are vegetarian! Hope you have a great night!

I've seen a few nice recipes for veggie burgers here. I'm not a big fan of Boca, they taste like a veggie burger. Hahahaha

I love portabella burgers! I can't eat red meat and I get so tired of putting chicken on the barbeque, so I'm always looking for alternatives. Hope your endeavor went well.

About Me
I am a PA Dutch-raised SAHM who now lives in the suburbs of D.C. I have two awesome kids who are now both in Elementary school and I am learning to balance home, school and community ... haven't passed that test yet. My favorite room in the house is the kitchen and I love to cook for friends. I am a displaced Recipezaarian and am making AllRecipes.com my new home and homepage.
My favorite things to cook
I love baking cakes in varying flavors. Unfortunately, being diabetic, I'm limited to baking cakes when I know there will be plenty of people to consume them! I have learned to love trying to copycat recipes from fine-dining experiences we have. I rely mostly on recipes but often step out of the box with substitutions to increase the "healthy" factor in the foods that I serve.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite cooking memories are making Christmas cookies at Grandma O's house(especially her Sand Tarts!) and having wonderful home-cooked dinners at Grandma E's House on Sundays with the best homemade bread, dried corn and real mashed potatoes. Two of my favorite Christmas offerings as I grew up were my mom's homemade chocolate-covered buttercreams and my Aunt Janice's "candy-cane bread".
My cooking triumphs
The most memorable dish I have made was a Peanut Butter Pie from The Common Grill Cookbook by Chef Greg Common in Ann Arbor, MI. It "WOWed" Mom's group and was a best-seller at the concession stand for the church plays. All of the dishes I made from Chef Common's cookbook have been hits but prep is sometimes a bit extensive so I save them for special occasions.
