Tempeh Reuben

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2013
I like this recipe. Never tried it though but growing up with tempeh as a cheap alternative to meat, i can make a lot of tempeh-based dish but putting it as a sandwich had never been one of them.

Green Tea Layer Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2012
LOVE IT! Tried it last night. I halved the recipe and I misread the instruction. I added the yoghurt together with the oil and sugar. It turned out fine. Next time, I've to add the green tea powder to 5-6gr instead of 4 because I can barely taste it. Yielded 9 cupcakes and I reduced the baking time to 15-20 minutes.

Hummingbird Cake I

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2012
mmm....... the cake was soo good. brought it to a surprise birthday party, and lo and behold, my cake was the birthday cake (didn't know that it was a birthday party and my friends forgot to buy a cake and decided to use this instead).I Made a couple of changes. I reduced the sugar to 1 1/2 cups only. 1/2 part palm sugar and 1/2 part white sugar. I also reduced to oil to 3/4 cup only. I didn't have crushed pineapple but I did have some fresh pineapples. Process them in the food processor and drain half of the juice. I mashed up the bananas, and used almond instead of pecan (too expensive). I added ½ tsp allspice powder. Baked them for 1hr and 30 minutes. The cake was soo dense and eventhough everyone was full with all the food we had in the party, they kept on raving about it. Oh yes, I use Cream Cheese Frosting II from this website too as the frosting.

Best Carrot Cake Ever

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2012
Lovely. my second trial for carrot cake. I've made a couple of changes. 1) i used only half recipe; 2) i only used 1tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp allspice, 1/2 tsp ginger powder; 3) i omitted the nuts; 4) i didn't use crushed pineapple, but i chopped off 1 big pineapple, squeezed out the juice and give it to my husband; 5) i squeezed the carrot to almost dry only and i didn't bother leaving it for an hour with the sugar. baked it for an hour, and frosted it cream cheese frosting II from this website. it was a hit. together with my Japanese cheesecake, it was gone within seconds from the dessert table. everyone said that this is the best carrot cake they ever had.

Tiramisu II

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2012
Soooo good. I followed the reviewers' comment on how to do it and YES, it got better after 48hours and even better after 4 days in the fridge. Hubby and I finished it in a week and the flavour got stronger the longer I keep it in the fridge. Oh yes, i didn't use rum, I used Kahlua instead to maximise the coffee-ness of this dish.

Indonesia Sate (Meat Kabobs)

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2012
Being an Indonesian, I gave this recipe only 4 stars noting that this is not as authentic as it is. I am, however, happy that I know someone posted this Sate recipe. It is not that authentic for the use of red wine and beef. Chicken or goat meat is more commonly use and red wine is avoided because we do not have a wine drinking culture and we're bound to the halal-ness of food to consume. Wine is not halal due to its alcohol content (though some people still drink it anyway). Thank you for posting this recipe. Looking forward to read some more from you.

One Bowl Chocolate Cake III

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2012
First of all, this is absolutely the best chocolate cake I've ever had in my life. My husband who is a chocolate cake hater, licked his desert plate clean when I served him this one. I altered the recipe a bit by reducing the sugar to 1.5 cup and mix white and brown sugar (was out of white sugar at that time) and I forgot to include the vanilla extract. I frost it with Cream Cheese Frosting II from this website and double the vanilla extract called for to complement the lack of it from the cake (and reduced the sugar required). Result: A Chocolate Cake to Die For. Thank you for this amazingly easy and delicious recipe.

Tempeh Sandwiches

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2012
I'm giving this five star for a very simple reason that someone could come up how to use tempeh in a sandwich. I come from Java, Indonesia and I grew up eating that as a cheap substitute to meat. usually, I would just slice them into 1-1.5cm thick, marinate it with watered down mashed garlic and salt, and fry it til golden brown. We eat it with warm rice or as a snack.

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2012
I halved the recipe because I have only one loaf pan. It worked well. really well. I also reduced the sugar, as suggested by some users here, but for some reason, the bread became bland. I might add some salt next time. But this is really easy to make and I can even do it on weekdays now. No more frozen bread in my household.

Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2012
Smells so good in the kitchen now as I just finished baking it. Even the dog decided to stay in the kitchen now. I omitted salt (used salted butter instead) and toasted nuts instead of walnuts (they're very expensive here). I mashed one banana and sliced the other. Result: very moist bread. Unfortunately, I'm on my pre-easter fasting period, so my husband is my taste-tester. He couldn't stop munching it. Hope he'll leave some for me to taste once Easter is here.

No Bake Cheesecake I

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2012
Very nice. I've made this twice. I omitted pecan sandies cookies because I didn't have it and was too lazy to find it, and I used marie biscuits instead of graham crackers (we dont have those here). I doubled the recipe because the only springform pan that I have is a 9 inch one. For the first one,I also topped my cake with blueberry jelly and the second cake, I used black cherry preserve. They got rave review. No one believed that I made those myself. Btw, I froze them overnight and keep it in the fridge until they're ready to be served (usually a day). I always made them one or two days in advance to make sure it's set.

Nana's Barbeque Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2012
sooooo good!! I didn't really follow the recipe though. I used garlic powder to replace celery salt and i used two pinch of mustard powder (I use English mustard) because my family loves the kick of the mustard. Together with my homemade garlic butter, they were the star of the evening.

Chicken Breasts in Caper Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2012
LOVE IT!!! I found this recipe last year thinking what am I to do with that bottle full of capers in the fridge. Tried it last night. I didn't use lemon pepper, but I used freshly ground black pepper. I doubled the sauce and served it on buttered spaghetti with shaved parmagiano on top. My husband loved it and he even licked his plate clean. The sauce is really to die for. YUM!!!

Very Berry Cheesecake

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2011
my first time baking a cheesecake. it was AWESOME!!!!! I didn't follow the recipe exactly as I didn't have any cherry brandy (I used white rum instead) and fresh blackberries were very expensive(they were imported), so I used organic mixed berries from our local grocery store. I threw three boxes of them into the cake and served it without topping. I still can't believe that my very first cheesecake for my fiance's birthday was a huge success. Thanks JJOHN32.

German Apple Cake I

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2011
I stupidly forgot to add sugar. :(( :(( My partner and his friends decided to put on a scoop of vanilla ice cream and tonnes of whipped cream on it. It was amazing!! The sourness of the apples well complement the sweetness in the ice cream and the cream...... (am speechless). Btw, I skipped out the cinnamon and used spekulaaskruiden (pumpkin pie spice) instead.

Delicious Apple Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2011
I used rome beauty for this recipe. For some reason, even though I used very low fire, the water kept evaporating. I ended up have to add totally a cup of water til it was actually done. I halved the sugar because I love the sweet and sour taste of the apples themselves. Cinnamon and apples = match made in heaven. LOVE IT!

Easy Chicken Satay

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2011
As an Indonesian, I grew up with chicken satay vendors around the neighbourhood. Honestly, this recipe is a bit too complicated from what I'm used to. However, I do understand that most of the ingredients used in my people's traditional recipe might not be available in your country. Great recipe though.

Simple Whole Roasted Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2011
LOVE IT!!! I didn't let it marinate overnight. I slid some butter under the skin. I also stuffed the chicken with onion and garlic and dusted the cavity with some extra seasoning. While roasting this, I put some quartered potatoes and some more onion in the pan to roast together. Love the gravy, too.

Easiest Brownies Ever

Reviewed: May 2, 2011
a little bit too sweet for my taste. I used half vanilla-infused white sugar and palm sugar in equal measurement (we don't have brown sugar or basterdzuiker here). Maybe because of that. I was also unable to stop myself from adding a bit of spekulaaskruiden (pumpkin-pie spice). LOVELY! I love the soft smell of cinnamon, clove, and a bit of ginger in it. Goes well with any chocolate cake I made so far. Btw, my partner wanted me to try it without any chocolate in it because he always prefer yellow or vanilla cakes than chocolate ones. Let's see how it goes.
