Italian Sausage Tortellini Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2004
This is indeed really, really good! I am a stickler for following a recipe to the letter the first time (I do not understand how people can trash a recipe and then go on at length about what they did or didn't do - it just isn't fair!)and I wouldn't change a thing. Maybe add some fresh spinach or mushrooms? Thanks Tim for an excellent addition to my recipe box!

Iowa City Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2005
These are really good. In an effort to keep my husband away from some of the really gross snack foods (Little Debbies, Hostess Twinkies...) I have been making more things from scratch and these will be a staple at our house. Normally I take great pains to follow a recipe to the letter the first time but I was out of chocolate chips and used Reeses Peanut Butter Chips instead and was very pleased with the result. Thanks for a great recipe. Additional Note! I made these again a couple of weeks later and (still) didn't have any chocolate chips and put in a heaping 1/2 cup of toffee chips. Wonderful.....

Slow Cooker Stuffing

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2002
VERY GOOD! My crockpot unfortunately choose Thanksgiving morning to die and so I ended up putting it in the oven while the turkey cooled and was carved but it was excellent! I ended up using about 2 1/2 cups of broth and "just because" I threw in about 3 coarsely shredded carrots. Big hit at our table.

Cinnamon Toffee Bars

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2002
I am an experienced cook and baker. Love to try new recipes. Always follow the recipe - no shortcuts - especially the first try. This was the WORST recipe I had ever tried! While it was (finally) in the oven I decided that I would forgive the fact that it was awful to make if the results were REALLY, REALLY good. They weren't. A huge waste of some pretty expensive ingredients. I wouldn't have given it any stars but I couldn't figure out how not to!

Rhubarb Bread I

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2003
Very good bread! I was more than a little skeptical about the baking time - it just didn't seem long enough but it tested done after 40 minutes. Then when I cut a sample about 30 minutes later it seemed kind of "loose" like it really hadn't baked long enough. However, it was just perfect this morning and quite tasty. Wouldn't change a thing. Thank you so much!

Polish Sausage with Red Cabbage

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2005
This is an interesting recipe.. I will make it as written again, sometime, especially if red cabbage happens to be on sale. It did, however, give me all kinds of ideas for revisions. I plan to try it with green cabbage, skip the boiling water step (I'm really not sure what that is all about!), add onion, garlic, bell pepper, carrot and use cider vinegar instead of the brown sugar. A whole new recipe!

Au Gratin Potatoes II

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2004
This is very good! I have tried a lot of Augratin Potato recipes over the years and usually they are TOO rich, this isn't! I had printed it off at Christmas time thinking that I might make it then and then decided to try something else - should have made this one! I am a stickler for following a recipe to the letter, especially the first time around but I did put some chopped red pepper in this just because I like a little color and I happened to have some.

Southwestern Turkey Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2003
Very Good! My husband and I both enjoyed this one. I am a stickler for following a recipe to the letter (the first time anyway!) and can see no reason for the 2 Roma tomatoes. The next batch I plan to use a green or yellow bell pepper, about 1/2 package of frozen corn and fresh cilantro. Thank you so much!

Baked Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2005
This is quite good. I have quite a lot of pureed fresh pumpkin in the freezer that I need to use but I'm also trying to reduce the fats... I think I may try using 1/2 whole wheat flour and maybe dark brown sugar. Thanks for submitting!

Amby Rae's Cucumber Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2003
Having read all of the other reviews I decided to start off with 1 cup of sour cream and 1 garlic clove and go from there. I can't imagine it if I would have used the other cup of sour cream! You could put it in bowls and serve it as a chilled soup? At any rate, I took it to a casual family dinner and it was well received but not a huge hit. I will make it again but do some tweaking.

Angel Food Cake III

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2003
This was awesome! So much better than the box mixes and really not that difficult. The box mixes have so many chemicals added to them it scares me. Making your Angel Food (or most anything for that matter) from scratch is a much healthier way to go. Thank you so much!

Easy Morning Glory Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2004
These are really good. I am a stickler for following a recipe to the letter the first time around (does that make any of the rest of you crazy when a recipe gets a bad review but the reviewer made all of these major changes???) but I did make a few small exceptions in this case. We just do not care for raisins and so I left them out and I could see no reason to peel the apple - the is where the best fiber is after all - and so I didn't and the muffins were just perfect. A food processor makes quick work out of the preparation. The recipe must have been for the large bakery-style muffins. I got 24 regular sized muffins.

Lemon Yogurt Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2003
Funny how it works sometimes but I was really disappointed when I tried one of these shortly after it came out of the oven. The next day, however, they were served at church fellowship and got rave reviews.

Cindy's Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2002
I don't care much for pumpkin pie and so I had just never made one. My step-children were coming for Thanksgiving and I remembered that the LAST time they joined us for T-Day they were disappointed so I decided to give it a go and tried this recipe. Awesome! Everybody loved it!

Awesome! A friend had just given me some fresh potatoes and I had enough to double the recipe and I was so SOOOO glad I did because we have really been enjoying the leftovers!
