About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
In general, I like big projects and new recipes-- making comprehensive meals with unique salads and veggie dishes, new main courses and fancy desserts. If they're recipes I've never tried before and the ingredients and final products look like they'll be great, I turn up the music and spend hours dancing around the kitchen between the stovetop, fridge, spice cupboard, mixing bowls and baking trays, and never feel like I'm working. Ask me to make a boring plate of spaghetti with carrot sticks on the side, and THAT'S work, because it's uninteresting to make and unsatisfying to eat.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Pot pie in winter, brown-sugar-garlic salmon, Cherries Jubilee on New Years, Angel Food cake with strawberries on birthdays, never saying "no" to whipped cream.

Fresh Fruit Salad Pie
My Grandma and I made this for a family dinner tonight, and it was a unanimous success. Even my mom, who's not a big fan of pineapples (unless they're fresh) enjoyed it. We didn't use the red food coloring or fruit preserver (and the fruit didn't discolor at all; we just made sure to immediately coat it with the glaze so the apple/banana weren't left exposed to air), and we only mixed in about 3/4 of the finished glaze, and it held it together just fine. We used sugar in our graham cracker crust recipe, and wouldn't have changed a thing, although some people might prefer things a little less sweet. A definite hit, and a recipe my Grandma plans to bring out again for company when she wants something a little different.
