Caramel Apples

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2014
Followed the directions as written. They tasted good and looked good, but they only looked good for the first 30 minutes. The coating made a lovely puddle on my serving platter. We were able to use the leftover as a caramel dip - which was a lot neater. Just put in a bowl with chopped up apples next to it. Maybe a little less milk? I'm not sure, but it was really runny.

Marinated Flank Steak

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2014
Loved the flavor, but it was so oily! I used 1/3C instead of the 1/2C and wish that I'd used even less! Delicious flavors, though. I marinated for 6 hours and the meat was very, very tender. My picky kids aged 12, 9 and 6 all really enjoyed it.

Bacon Wrapped Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2014
It was fine and everyone ate it, but it wasn't as glorious as the reviews made it out to be. Made it exactly as written and served over egg noodles. Hubby says we could do it again but it isn't on the must do list. I was so excited about this one, too. The bacon added a nice flavor to the chicken, but that's about it. Kind of bland.

Southwestern Beef Skillet

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2013
This got mixed reviews from my family. Hubby, me and one of three kids liked it. The other two kids kept asking "how many more bites do I have to eat?", but I think it was because of the green beans for one child and the chunky tomatoes from the salsa for my other non-veggie loving kid. I made it mostly as written. Since I didn't have instant rice, I made regular rice on the stove top and stirred it in. Instead of using a whole cup of water that the recipe called for because I precooked my rice, I waited and added 1/4 cup of water at a time when mixing in the precooked rice until it got to a good consistency (around 1/2 C total). It was a quick and easy recipe with items we already had in the house. I'll make it again.

Blueberry Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2012
Made this exactly as written and it was delicious! Well, we forgot to 'dot' with butter, but it was still fabulous. We used fresh picked blueberries from a local farm and made the flaky pie crust (from this site) with a lattice top. Most of the work was done by our 10 and 7 year old kids, and they were surprised at how easy it was.

Special Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2012
I made with 3/4 Crisco and 1/4 real butter and it's greasy. It left a film on the roof of my mouth and my tongue. I can't imagine how much worse it would be with 100% Crisco. I don't understand the rave reviews unless if they're by people that have not had truly good buttercream. I don't have time to make another frosting before our guests arrive and I'm truly embarrassed to have to serve this. The only positive thing I can say is that the texture is nice.

Blonde Brownies I

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2011
Made exactly as written and it was nothing special. Not bad - not great. The texture and flavor was pretty much identical to chocolate chip bar cookies. I won't make this again.

Cracked Sugar Cookies I

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2011
These disappeared fast and everyone enjoyed them. I didn't realize that I was almost out of white flour when I made them, so ended up using half white and half wheat flour. They looked a little bit like peanut butter cookies, but turned out fantastic. From start to finish, we whipped these up in less than 30 minutes. Easy for the kids to help, too.

Rich Chocolate Frosting

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2010
This is so delicious! My kids are frosting the cupcakes right now and I couldn't wait to put in a review. We didn't have butter, so we used 70% Vegetable Oil Spread. To make sure there were no clumps, we sifted the powdered sugar and cocoa. The texture is perfect ~ so easy for the kids to spread. We also halved the recipe and I'm sure there's going to be a ton left over. Mmmmm.

Jif® Peanut Butter Blossoms

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2009
I have little ones at home, so we make small ones of these and put a chocolate chip on top. They're the perfect size for little hands. I've tried other versions of this recipe, but this one is just as good as any others out there. We made it exactly as written and the texture and taste were delicious. Not too crunchy & not too chewy.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
They were so so so sticky. I followed the recipe perfectly. Even put in the fridge overnight. I took my daughters out shopping this morning for their own Halloween cookie cutters, but we couldn't even get the cookie cutters off of the dough. I threw all the dough back in the bowl and used a scoop to drop them in a bowl of sugar.

Buttery Soft Pretzels

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2009
This was so easy and so yummy! I had to put some of the dough in the fridge for a couple hours and that ended up being the best dough to work with. It rolled out beautifully and so much easier than the non-refrigerated dough. My 6 year old was able to make a 2 foot long "snake" no problem. We'll make this again!

Raspberry and Almond Shortbread Thumbprints

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2008
My husband really liked this recipe, but I won't be making it again. It was like eating a slab of butter. My fault for thinking this would come out differently. I guess that's what shortbread is supposed to taste like.

Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2007
This was a great recipe to make with my toddlers! I was a total skeptic about the final result, but they turned out yummy. Somehow ours made a lot more than the recipe said ~ we ended up with 21 big ones & 21 bite sized ones. For the little ones, we put a chocolate chip in the middle instead of a kiss. They are the perfect size for my 2 year old! The kids enjoyed measuring, mixing and rolling these into balls. We rolled them in sugar for added calories (well, mostly for appearance). One slight change I made was to take the pan out 2 minutes early, put the chocolate on and then finish baking. Very kid friendly & yummy recipe! Very, very little clean-up which is a HUGE plus!

Waffles I

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2007
Whoever suggested to mix this up in a blender is a genius! I was skeptical, but it worked great. Easy mixing, pouring & cleanup! I used 1/2 wheat flour and half regular ~ anything to make things a little healthier. Delicious!

Chicken and Broccoli Braid

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2007
This recipe has become a family favorite. The kids love it! It is wonderful for entertaining because it has such a lovely presentation. If you want to save on calories, you can use one can of crescent rolls spread thin. We actually make it that way when its just our family ~ when we're entertaining we'll use two cans. I also generally use about half or third of the mayo required but only because I detest mayo. I don't even measure...I just scoop out a glop and stir it in.

Kettle Corn

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2007
This was yummy and easy to make, but it didn't taste exactly like fair kettle corn. I'm not sure what ingredient would make the difference? It did taste more authentic after it cooled, though. I used Crisco vegetable oil, Orville R. popcorn, sugar and salt. Maybe next time I'll try butter flavored oil? I've been trying to find coconut oil because I've heard that's great in making movie theater-like popcorn, but haven't found it locally yet. Maybe that would help? I made this recipe in our WhirleyPop and it came out light, crisp and not burned at all.

Caramel Filled Chocolate Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2002
This recipe was impossible to make and it didn't really taste that good. I'm not sure why it has so many rave reviews. The cookie dough kept sticking to my hands and I was constantly having to chill it over and over again. It was not worth the time or the ingredients.
