Bean and Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2004
This soup was great. We had it on one of the first cool nights of the fall and it was perfect. I substituted the wine with chicken broth and it still tasted good. I also used hot italian pork sausage and removed it from the casings so the soup has sausagey meatballs. Next time I would cut the recipe by a third though because it didn't all fit into my crock pot (I have the larger one) and I had to finish it in a pot on the stove. But I would definitely make this again.

Sour Cream Apple Pie II

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2004
This was one of the best apple pies I've ever had. I had guests over and they loved it too. I used brown sugar in the topping and needed more flour so to spice the topping up, I added a bit of cinnamon. But otherwise perfect!

Maple Glazed Ribs

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2004
These were the best ribs I ever had. My husband and dinner guests agreed! I had to make two batches of the sauce and served leftover marinade with the meal; it was great on rice. I initially thought the cider vinegar was too much but with the meat it was perfect. Thanks so much for this great recipe!

Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2004
This recipe tasted good. I followed it to the letter and couldn't get it to form a ball so I left it as a spread. Adults and children alike loved it.

Chocolate Chip Shortbread Cookie Logs

These cookies are SO good. My husband just loved them. For a variation, I may halve the chocolate chips next time and substitute them with finely chopped walnuts. But this recipe is great as is.

Pizza Casserole

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2003
This recipe was great! I used ground chicken instead of beef, and added mushrooms to make it a true combination style pizza casserole. I had more meat than the recipe called for so I scaled up the noodles, the sauce and the milk. The mushrooms made up for not scaling up the green pepper and the amount of pepperoni the recipe called for was perfect, even for the larger casserole. I also used more cheese because my husband and I are cheese lovers. Definitely a keeper and leftovers can be frozen for lunches. Thanks Melissa.

Pasta Pomodoro

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2003
This recipe is great! I added slightly more balsamic vinegar by accident and liked it better that way. I've also experimented with a can of sliced mushrooms. Stay away from fresh mushrooms as they have a lot of water and make a the dish watery (cooking it too long eliminates the nice chunks of tomato in it).I have made this recipe 5 times in as many weeks and my hubby and I have loved it each time! Looks like a restaurant-style pasta dish.

Grandmother's Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2003
I made these last night and my husband and I both really liked them. I then brought them to work this morning and the VP of my company said "I've died and gone to cookie heaven". Now I think that means they're good! The only thing I did differently was that I used real butter instead of the shortening.

Japanese Beef and Noodles Big Bowl

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2003
I would make this again. I used two whole eggs because I didn't know what I'd do with two egg yolks and didn't want to waste them. The egg is quite prominent so if you don't like them, omit.

Mango Passion Fruit Frozen Punch for Adults

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2003
Everybody loved this juice! I used 1 can mango juice and 1 can 'passion fruit, guava, and orange' juice and it tasted great. Mangos are out of season so I only put in two and made up the rest with strawberries. The red spiced it up a lot in color and the strawberries added a nice flavour. This recipe makes a lot of juice and I had to scale it down. I don't think I added enough vodka because it froze completely. But once it started to defrost (I put it in some hot water to speed up the process) I couldn't keep my guests away from it.

Strawberry Angel Food Dessert

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2003
This was really good and very easy to make. I wasn't sure how much Cool Whip to put (because it was in liters and I didn't feel like measuring) so I put the whole tub in (1 liter) and it was really good. I used light cream cheese and light cool whip and did not have any problems. I cooled it in the refrigerator overnight. As other people suggested, I ommitted the glaze and topped with strawberries and peaches and thought it was sweet/flavourful enough. Would definitely make again.

Cheese Ball

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2003
Very good. I drained the pineapple until there was almost not liquid left and it held together no problem. Though I didn't have one, a cheese cloth would be useful to drain the pineapple. I will definitely use one when I make this again.

Really good as per recipe. It was a lot of work but it was worth it! I only made 1/2 a batch and it was more than enough. I will definitely make it again.

Easy Peach Crisp II

This was good. I would use a little bit less sugar. Make sure that the topping is really 'pea-sized' since larger pieces are too chunky.

Greek Souzoukaklia

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2002
This was really good. A nice change from the usual uses of ground beef. I was a little wary of the raisins but that turned out to be the best part! I served it with tzatziki sauce and greek salad and it complemented the meal perfectly!

This was good. The only change I will make next time is only one tablespoon of soya sauce.
