Chile Con Carne

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2002
I made this recipe as stated except used 1 can chili beans instead of 2 cans of kidney due to preference. It was very tasty and exactly what I wanted. I will use this recipe next time!

Breakfast Pita Pockets

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2002
This is great for brunch! It was a big success here since no one likes omlets or traditional breakfasts anymore. I fried 1/2 pound of breakfast sausage and ground it in the blender after it was cooked. Then I stirred in 4 egg whites and added 1/2 chopped green pepper and 1 chopped romano tomato and cooked until the eggs were done then sprinkled with shredded cheddar cheese and stuffed into pita pockets. Blending it up makes it easier to eat since pitas are fairly fragile. I served with hash browns.

This is really good and simple! I didn't have a red pepper so I uesed green but it still needed red so I added 1/2 cup of fresh chopped cranberries and served over leaf lettuce. DELICIOUS!

Hungarian Lecso

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2002
This was FANTASTIC! A soup that eats like a meal. I got stuck with Idaho potatoes instead of new potatoes but they tasted good too. I didn't have any fresh garlic. I didn't cook it for very long so the vegetable were a little firm which made it seem like a meal. Ymmmy! I'll definitely make it again.

Best Marinara Sauce Yet

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2002
I was in a bind and made this in a jiff. It tasted great and even better the next day! I didn't use any oil and it came out just fine. I used canned diced tomatoes, dried garlic and parsley becasuse that's what I had on hand, everthing else as stated. This is better than most brands of sauce at the store.

Gobble Up Granola Snacks

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2008
I made these just like the recipe except for the raisins because I wasn't going to let that stop me from having a sugar treat today. Next time I will try Chocolate Crispies. Less messy than Rice Krispie Treats.

Caldo Verde (Portuguese Green Soup)

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2002
Most excellent soup! As with most soups, this needs to sit overnight for best flavor. Linguicia is hard to find but worth the effort (usually in the smoke sausage section). I left the potatoes in small cubes. I simmered in the crockpot because I like the kale well done. This was a hit with our guests!

Alice Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2002
This was delicious, my favorite chicken recipe now! Taste and presentation is perfect for guests or special evenings! This really gives the chicken a different taste. It was difficult finding the honey mustard sauce ... I got the last bottle in the store, and couldn't find it at all at other stores.

Easy Teriyaki Chops

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2002
Extremely simple with lots of flavor! I marinated thin slices of pork for 2 hours and pan fried. Not too salty like some recipes we've had.

Aunt Millie's Broccoli Casserole

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2002
Everyone ate their broccoli! No on in our family likes brocoli, but they'll eat anything that is covered and smothered I guess. I used 2 heads of broccoli because that's all I had, will use 2 next time too because it was very moist. I used cheddar cheese and added 2 Tbls milk.

Oven Roasted Potatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2002
So easy and smells so good cooking! I used the ingredients listed but didn't peel the potatoes. I chose to put them in a glass casserole dish so they would come out soft (not crip) to conform to blend better with my meal. Everyone loved these, and my 2-year-old ate every bite. Thanks for this great recipe, it will replace my traditional pan fried recipe!

Zuppa Toscana

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2002
Everyone including 2-year-old loved this! We had to make 2 pots because we ate the first one up and didn't have any left overs for lunch. Our adjustments for the second pot was boiling the kale with the potatoes, reducing the chicken bouillon to 2 tsp, 1 extra cup of water, and a pinch of crushed red pepper. Can't wait until lunch tomorrow!

Shepherd's Pie I

This tasted great, and we liked it even better the next day. I made exactly as described and won't be changing anything next time. I served peas on the side. It passed the 2-year-old test. Can you get any easier or less expensive than this!?

I love carmel corn, have tried all different recipes but this one is my favorite. I bake mine in a roasting pan. This stores a long time in an airtight container.

1-2-3 Vegetable Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2003
My 3 year old even had seconds on this one! It tastes more like vegetable soup that eats like chili. It was flavored just right for our tastes and was not spicy at all. We didn't use any cheese. Only took a few minutes to make and only 1 pot to clean. Ideal!

Onion Rice

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2003
I used beef cubes and served as a side with beef. Everyone really got exceited about it, and my 3 and 9 year old had seconds. Red onions are sweet and less potant than regular onions so it lightly flavors the rice, it's not overpowering. This would be a great substitution for the expensive boxed rice at the store.

Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2003
I can't believe I wasted my money on the canned versions all this time! This was just how I liked it...before I put the mustard in so added a tsp. of Worchestershire sauce to counteract the mustard. Will make this all the time!
