Party Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2003
I made these for valenties day. We used Strawberry jello and added sprinkles to the top. I tried shaping the cookies but could not. The kids really enjoyed them, particularly due to the color. I'm preparing to make some green ones for St. Patricks day. It's a great alternative to cut-outs.

Sweet and Sour Pork I

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2003
This was a great recipe and tasted a little different which is good. I was scared about the tomato but it was great. I think corn starch tastes a lot better for the batter than flour. The sauce was tasty too. It was actually better than some restaurants that I've been to. I gave up on the bag and just treded the pork. I made a huge mess in the kitchen but everyone like it. (I double battered the pork and cooked in the deepfryer and doubled the sauce due to my preference). I used pineapple juice instead of plum.

Yummy Yam Casserole

Unbelivable! I hate yams and ate a full serving! Very simple to make. I omitted the nuts.

Garlic Green Beans

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2003
WoW! I loved these! I used 7 cloves of crushed garlic and it was just right for the meal. I will reduce the oil next time as they were a little greasy. They tasted great without the parmesan too!

Amy's Garlic Egg Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2003
This was a really good chicken recipe. I used 1/2 cup of crubs and cheese and still had way too much. I piled it on top of the chicken to use it up and it tasted great. The was a hint of garlic flavor on the outside of the chicken, but no garlic flavor inside. It was juicy and enjoyed by all.

Chili Seasoning Mix II

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2003
I omitted the flour because I didn't need it. This is a nice chili mild flavor. I used more chili powder and ground cayenne powder to hotten it up.

Easy Tuna Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2003
This made a nice lunch. It was creamy but very mild in flavor. I used thin spiral stick pasta and added salt, pepper, and water chestnuts and omitted the French onions.

Great Twice Baked Potatoes

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2003
I just eyeballed the measurements and I didn't use egg. I baked some bacon since the oven was on anyway and added it to the mix. Everyone went nuts for it.

Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2003
I can't believe I wasted my money on the canned versions all this time! This was just how I liked it...before I put the mustard in so added a tsp. of Worchestershire sauce to counteract the mustard. Will make this all the time!

Basic White Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2003
This turned out nicely in appearance, but I didn't like the taste or the heavy texture. For those using yeast in the jar, the equivalent is 2-1/4 tsp, or check the fine print on your jar.

Onion Rice

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2003
I used beef cubes and served as a side with beef. Everyone really got exceited about it, and my 3 and 9 year old had seconds. Red onions are sweet and less potant than regular onions so it lightly flavors the rice, it's not overpowering. This would be a great substitution for the expensive boxed rice at the store.

Banana Oatmeal Cookie

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2003
My toddler loved these, my 9 year old and I were not as impressed. I added chocolate chips to the second batch and my 9 year old thought they were great. He complained the cookies were too "chubby". They tasted like mini banana muffins to me, nothing like oatmeal cookies.

1-2-3 Vegetable Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2003
My 3 year old even had seconds on this one! It tastes more like vegetable soup that eats like chili. It was flavored just right for our tastes and was not spicy at all. We didn't use any cheese. Only took a few minutes to make and only 1 pot to clean. Ideal!

Hawg-N-Dogs

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2003
This was really good, a great improvement to hot dogs! We made ours in the deep fryer. We also liked bacon crubled over the cheese dog. They really don't need any condiments but I liked it with bbq sauce. We are going to make these for our next party.

Potato Croquettes

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2003
I served these as an appetizer. Everyone enjoyed them, even my daughter who hates mashed potatoes came back for thirds on these! I used cold mashed potatoes (with garlic and ham pieces) and frozen Romano cheese. I rolled a ball the size of a heaping Tablespoon and squished it a little and deep fried in a deepfryer for 1 minute and served with ketchup. Next time I will freeze the patties before frying.

Mixed Vegetable Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2003
I substituted frozen mixed vegetables and I used baby perl onions which I love and baked it in an 8x8 dish so I didn't have to use as many crackers. I was hesitant about that much mayo but went ahead with the full cup. I will use 1/2 cup of mayo next time. This was great for lunch. I will be serving this as a side for my chicken at supper.
