Good New Orleans Creole Gumbo

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2013
How have I not rated this before?! 1st gumbo recipe I ever tried and it was such a home run I've never bothered to try another one.

Mini Frittatas

A good idea but all I could taste was the cumin. I might try again but change some of the spices around.

High Five Orange Rolls

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2013
Turned out really well, even though I did a lot to screw it up. I forgot to add the melted butter while mixing the dough, so I ended up kneading it in at the end. This actually made it really easy to knead and I didn't need to use as much extra flour many other reviewers did. Kind of messy though. There is a lot of orange flavor, so if you want to taste the cream cheese in the frosting, leave out the extract there. We really liked it though. One problem we did run into was when I left them in the fridge over night a lot of moisture came out from the sugar/butter filling. They baked ok, but I ended up burning them a little on the bottom. Next time I think I'll try baking the same day and see if it helps.

Southern Peach Cobbler

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2012
The flavor was ok, but, like several other reviewers, it was kind of gooey. The top was cooked, and cobbler-esque, but a lot of the batter stayer around the peaches and didn't cook. I used the peaches in a plastic jar instead of a can, is it possible there was more syrup in those? I think I'll try it again with more peaches and less syrup and see how it works.

Pizza Dough III

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2012
The dough was really soft, and I had a hard time getting it to roll out on my counter. I ended up rolling it on my pizza stone, luckily it didn't stick. As far as flavor goes. It was fine. Nothing special, but it wasn't a bad flavor. Pretty middle of the road.

Unbelievable Rolls

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2011
Killed my yeast. The "warm" step is a little vague. I'll try again another day I guess.

Poppy Seed Mini Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2011
Very good. I followed one suggestion and used half wheat flour, and I used plain yogurt instead of sour cream. With the wheat flour you probably need to double the lemon extract, as the flavor was a little more subtle than I would have liked.

Cinnamon Raisin Bread I

Reviewed: May 11, 2011
A great bread; I can rarely get a loaf to stay around for more than a day. I do recommend substituting part brown sugar for the filling and I use more raisins. But, it's definitely a go-to recipe for me.

Sweet and Sour Pork III

Reviewed: May 11, 2011
One of our favorites. Fresh pineapple makes a huge difference, if you can find a good ripe one. I also use red peppers and red onions to add a little more color. I try not to cook the veggies too much before adding the meat and sauce, because I prefer them a little crisper, not quite as limp, but that's purely a matter of preference. I also took the recommendation of some other reviewers and pan fried the meat rather than deep frying it and it was still wonderful. I really like using the cornstarch instead of flour (like I see in a lot of other recipes). Edit: also makes INCREDIBLE orange chicken. Just sub chicken for the pork and instead of pineapple juice use the juice from one orange and zest from half of it.
