About this Cook
"Slim-ish", single, and "straight". Found out 6 years ago I have crohn's disease = never realized I was allergic to aspirin AND wheat/flour. That meant I had to give up breads, pizza and most importantly: PASTA ! That meant coming up with new recipes to live by. I have to admit, I do have uncontrollable cravings and cheat by eating pasta ( limited servings ). I've been visiting this website for years putting my own twist on lots of recipes. Finally joined last month.
My favorite things to cook
Chili ( regular and white chicken ), stews of all kinds, grilled lean cuts of all meats, oven roasted fresh vegetables, steamed & lightly buttered frozen vegetables,no-bake chocolate cookies ( yum ) but gotta limit my intake for my waistline's sake.Roasted meats such as beef, chicken, pork loin, stuffed pepper soup, cabbage soup, corn beef & cabbage ( when I can open up the windows ), brownies from scratch and customized mixes, and lastly: my Austrian grandmother's secret recipe for firm, moist stuffing ( to die for ! )
My cooking triumphs
From scratch I've successfully & proudly prepared: chocolate mousse vichyssoise ( my Dad's personal favorite potato soup ) Grandma's secret stuffing (so proud)
My cooking tragedies
Over ten years ago I started cooking a turkey for Thanksgiving that had been in the freezer for 19 months. It even smelled horrible while it was cooking. I didn't know better at the time LOL .. Tossed it out after less than 2 hours of cooking. We all ate prepared frozen pizzas along with the Thanksgiving side dishes....You know you have true friends when they can forgive & joke about my blunder. Live & learn !

Cabbage Fat-Burning Soup
Ignore the warnings of not changing the ingredients, go ahead! Canned tomato juice is high in sodium so I increase the low sodium beef broth. Often I include fresh or frozen veggies that's on sale at the market. I like to always include zucchini and yellow squash. I amp up the carrots & use a whole bunch of celery. I add veggies to the pot at different intervals because I like 'em on the crunchy side. I often change the seasoning packets to chile , taco or whatever suits my fancy. Stick with this without CHEATING and you'll loose weight. There is a calender of what to eat on certain days that goes with this diet. You can get unhealthy if just eating this and this alone. You're allowed meats & bananas, for example but on specific days. Google "cabbage soup diet schedule" and follow the plan.

Absolute Best Pancake Syrup
Oh so delicious ! I'm almost too ashamed to report I consumed a few "shots" of syrup straight-up ( sans pancakes ) as I had no self-control. I dare not keep this concoction around. I read other reviews and made this in a super deep container: my pasta pot as it expanded in volume tremendously.
