Like other reviewers, I also thought this recipe looked promising, but bland. When I made this, I added 2 stemmed (not seeded) jalapenos, 2 finely minced habaneros, a heaping tablespoon of cumin, and upped the basil and chili powder. I also sauteed the onion, bell pepper and celery in a little olive oil until the onion was translucent for a little more flavoring before adding it to the slow cooker. One small can of diced green chilies was also added. Overall it turned out quite nice with those additions. I agree the celery was a bit quirky but it actually added a nice flavor to the dish. With the changes I made, I will make this recipe again.
