Grandma's Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2013
This recipe was awesome. The only change I made was to use two cups of frozen corn as well as the two cans of creamed corn. I should have used more bacon though because I ended up with more than the eight servings that this makes. Next time I'll know better. We really loved this!

Pumpkin Bars I

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2013
SO delicious! I am not a fan of pumpkin anything but my husband is so I more or less made it for him. When I tasted it I couldn't believe how great this is and ended up eating more than half the pan! I kept everything exactly as written and will definitely be making more. GREAT recipe, thanks!

Oven-Roasted Turkey Breast

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2013
My turkey turned out delicious! I make a great turkey anyway but was looking for something just a little different so I thought I'd try this and am glad I did. I used a 7 lb. turkey breast and the only thing I left out was the paprika. Also, I didn't make the gravy because I made my own tried and true recipe but as for the turkey it was wonderful!

Mom's Candied Yams with Caramel

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2013
Not so sure about this one. Maybe the fact that I used fresh yams, cut them into chunks and parboiled rather than mashing them was the deal breaker but there was something missing from the flavor. I did everything else the same except I doubled the the recipe. Just not sure what happened but I'll stick to my original yam casserole. All the posters loved this so maybe it was just us.

MMMMM... Brownies

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2013
I thought I had the best brownie recipe anywhere but I came across this and decided to give it a try. Because we love brownies I doubled the batch and am glad I did. I didn't change anything. We couldn't stop eating these. They are beyond the best!!!

Crab-Stuffed Lobster Tail

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2013
I used the stuffing recipe for portabella mushrooms and it was excellent. The only changes I made was to add a little extra lemon juice and used canned crab (that's what I had) . I will definitely make this again but will omit the salt and use lump crab like the recipe calls for. My husband LOVED this and asked that I make it again as an entree with a vegetable!

Apple and Spice Pork Roast

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2013
I found this to be nothing special. I make my own applesauce anyway so it tasted like my typical roast pork/applesauce. I was looking for something different but this one missed the mark for me.

Mom's Fabulous Chicken Pot Pie with Biscuit Crust

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2012
This chicken pie is fabulous! I'm glad I altered the amount so my husband would have leftovers for a couple of nights because of our different schedules. We couldn't believe how great this turned out. One thing I did not do is alter the recipe in any way which is very unusual for me. I like to change a couple ingredients more to our liking but this one sounded perfect as is and it was. I boiled split chicken breasts which made them very tender and juicy. I am making this again this weekend and there will be plenty left for him to enjoy during the week. The entire pie stays tender and juicy with reheating. I can't rave enough on the taste, texture and quality of this awesome dish and am so glad I found it!!! Thank you!

Jamie's Minestrone

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2012
I have never lover of minestrone basically because I'm not a fan of tomato based soups but there was something about this recipe that caught my eye. My husband is a soup fanatic and I try to find good recipes that will last for a few meals because I get home too late from work to start fussing in the kitchen. I have to say that this is a fantastic recipe for something I'm not even crazy about! I pretty much followed it as written but I added a can of diced tomatoes and baked some Italian sausage in which I cut in to tiny pieces and threw into the pot. Also, I only used two zucchinis because they were pretty big ones and omitted the wine simply because I really dislike it. As usual, I tasted a bit here and there as it cooked but I just had my first bowl and could not believe how incredibly scrumptious this is. It's the very first minestrone that I've loved. I can't recommend it highly enough. Jamie, you're a genius. Thank you sooooo much!!!

Foolproof Rib Roast

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2011
My Christmas prime rib came out fabulous. I added about 1 1/2 teaspoons of marjoram to the spice mixture which added an extra little something. The only other difference I made was the oven temp. I heated my oven to 380 degrees, let it sit as stated and then reheated again at 380 for 45 minutes instead of 30 minutes because we like our meat just a bit more well done than most. Even with my modification of the temp and timing it still could have been a little more cooked but I have to say that it was absolutely awesome. Any less cooked and we couldn't have eaten it but that's just us so I'm glad I decided to modify it. Next time I'll probably reheat it for an hour but again, it was really great!

Spinach Tomato Tortellini

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2011
I've been cooking for a very long time and enjoy finding new and different recipes. This is one of the best dishes I have ever made. It's quick and easy but tastes like I've been slaving in the kitchen. I used a can of plain tomatoes, doubled the garlic and cheese to suit our taste but I have no doubt that if you follow this recipe exactly it will be just as scrumptious. If I didn't know I cooked it myself I'd swear that a top Italian chef at the finest restaurant prepared this, it's THAT AMAZING! You HAVE to try this!!!
