Margaritas on the Rocks

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2010

MMMMM... Brownies

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2010
I must have done something majorly wrong because I would take a box over this any day. It was too sweet (corn syrup sweet for me). If it was meant to be this sweet then I guess it was ok but I was expecting a rich chocolate taste.

Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce III

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2008
What just puts this recipe over the top is the whiskey sauce that you put on top. I could just have a cup of that! Easy recipe. I make it with all my old french bread.

Chicken Paprikash II

Reviewed: May 11, 2008
I wouldn't change a thing. If you make as is I think you have a real comfort food winner. I serve over pasta for those extra carbs.

Butterscotch Cookie Bars

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2008
I love the combo of easy and tasty! I am not a raisin fan so I didn't even think to add them. Instead I added 1/2 cup semi sweet chocolate chips and 1/2 cup white chocolate chips (instead of the 1 c. all chocolate). Great combo. I might try it with nuts too but it was great as is.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2008
In the first hours of this in the slow cooker I had high hopes. It smelt great and in tasting some samples the broth was wonderful (1 cream of chicken and 1 cream of celery plus chopped celery and carrots). I should have just served it as is. The problem came when adding the bisquits. One, I think it called for too much and I just think homemade dumplings would have been better. I would still suggest people to try it but with some changes namely with the dumplings. I don't think my family will be willing to go through another test though.

Steak and Ale Pie with Mushrooms

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2008
This was a hearty meal but I did need to adjust a bit as it was a bit bland. I added some carrots, a cup of beef broth (as there was not enough liquid to cook the potatoes and tenderize the stew meat) and lastly I thought to add some tomato flavor. I did not have tomato paste but added 2 Tbsp of ketchup and I immediatly knew it just what the dish needed. I had to cook it longer than 30 minutes to get the meat to a stew type tenderness. I only used a top pie crust to make it easier. It cut down the time in the oven and seemed perfect and not overpowering. I would make this again but with the modifications. My husband being more of a meat and potato guy would want it again for sure.

Pesto Chicken Florentine

I also have a recipe like this with shrimp and if has more flavor that way and the presentation is better with the shrimp too. Good enough to have when all the ingredients are on hand.

Better Than Best Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2007
This was just ok. I will make it again but it didn't look too pretty. This is something I will just make for my family in a pinch.

Lasagna Alfredo Roll Ups

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2007
These are good but I do add shredded chicken and sometimes add spaghetti sauce (with the alfredo) to make it even richer and change it up.

Margaritas

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2007
This is a recipe I have used forever. I was glad to see someone else uses it as well. It is always a hit at parties! For over the rocks just add a bit of water instead of ice (it ends up tasting a bit stonger).

Creamy Chicken Lasagna

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2007
Not only is this simple to whip up it is also a crowd pleaser (children too!). The only thing I do is that I double the recipe to go into a 9x13 casserole dish. This is the only way I can possibly have leftovers for lunches (this is if the pan has not been licked clean though). Thanks for the recipe, it is a keeper!

Johnny Marzetti V

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2007
This was a bit to plain for my taste. My husband who is more basic when it comes to food even said it was a bit bland. If you have finicky kids it might be a good thing.

Turtle Cake I

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2007
After making some modifications this rating would be a 5. As other reviewers mentioned I cut the butter (I did 1/2 c.), also I wish the time could be a little bit more specific. The cake looked the same at 20 minutes and then at 30 minutes. For what it is worth I have a gas oven and it turned out perfect (even though it still looked a little wobbly) at 30 minutes. So to make it short and sweet, less butter, 30 minutes and a 5 star rating.

Toasted Coconut, Pecan, and Caramel Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2007
Great Recipe. I made it for a luncheon and it went fast. I was a bit scared because it sounded so sweet but I am so glad I went ahead and made it. I will make again for sure!

Chocolate Turtle Cheesecake I

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2006
This is the same recipe I recieved from a bed & breakfast. The only difference is that in that recipe it calls for 6 TBSP of butter instead of 2 (the 6 is a MUST). Also, to keep the caramel sauce on the edges from getting too crispy I would press the cookie crust 1 inch up the side (I baked mine for about 10 minutes on 350 to make it set more). Lastly I cooked mine at 350 for 40 minuted and there was not a crack and I didn't even have to do a water bath - Yeah!

Manicotti Alla Romana

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2006
I didn't find that this took any more prep time than a typical lasagna recipe but even if it took 6 hours to prepare it would be well worth the effort. This was delicious, made for a good presentation and could be made ahead if need be(so it would be great to make if company is coming over). In fact after we had it we were planning our next party with this as the main course!

Cajun Chicken Pasta

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2006
This gets a 5 for taste and ease of preparation. I didn't have lemon pepper so I skipped that but did add fresh lemon juice (which really added to the flavor). It was a filling meal and one I will be making again and again! Thanks
