Alfredo Medallions

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2014
This was just ok. I hate to tarnish the 5* review, but it was just ok. I made it exactly as written. We like Alfredo, we like pork, but this just wasn't anything wonderful. I think it was the pork and Alfredo sauce that just didn't seem to mesh.

Garlic Green Beans

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2014
No one in my family liked this dish - and all of us like *all* of the ingredients. The roasted garlic and parmesan flavors just didn't mix. Will not make again.

Hamburger Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2014
I just realized this morning that I've never reviewed this recipe even though I've been making it for several years now. It's a fabulous recipe, a keeper, and one I make again and again. The first few times I made it, I used canned veggies instead of frozen (I'm not a big fan of 'frozen mixed veggies' - ick). But then I tried it with the frozen veggies and was surprised that they work just fine in this recipe! I do add fresh carrot though. I've tried other 'hamburger soups' on this website and this one is definitely my family's favorite.

Chef John's Stuffed Peppers

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2014
These were the best stuffed peppers EVER! I doubled the sauce, as per earlier reviews. I used brown rice and also turkey Italian sausage. Gave some to a neighbor and she loved them too! Will definitely use this recipe again and again.

Marinated Veggies

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2014
I make a lot of different marinated veggies and this recipe was the best of all I've tried! I did add some fresh rosemary and oregano. I used low-sodium soy, which is what I always use. Grilled in my grill pan/basket over charcoal after marinating in a bag (on the counter, no need to refrigerate) for a little over an hour. Definitely will use this recipe again. Even the grape tomatoes I used turned out fabulous - but I chose tomatoes that were firm.

Zucchini 'Noodles'

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2014
These are fantastic. I normally use tofu shirataki noodles but wanted to use up some zucchini. Since my zucchini were cut on the thicker side, I did boil them and then sautéed with olive oil and garlic (and salt & pepper). I served with alfredo sauce and grilled chicken... YUMMY and will definitely do this again. The texture isn't the same as noodles but zucchini does not have an overwhelming flavor, which makes it perfect for this.

Pork Chop Soup

Made this according to the recipe but I just didn't like it. My family ate it but no one was impressed. Sorry.

Sarah's Applesauce

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2013
This is my third year using this recipe. It's the BEST applesauce recipe - especially for the late summer / early fall when the Paula Red / McIntosh apples come in. (Harder, crunchier apples don't mush up as well as these varieties.) The most time consuming part is peeling the apples. After you've made it a few times, you can 'eyeball' the other measurements (rather than measuring). My kids LOVE this applesauce - especially warm! I make it several times a week while the fresh apples are in season.

Mediterranean Lentil Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2013
I know this is a highly rated recipe but I just didn't care for it. I added extra lemon juice (after tasting it, of course) and it still tasted bland to me. I like lentils, but I won't be making this recipe again.

Mom's Mashed Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2013
I've made this twice now. I used white potatoes both times, plus I subbed dill pickles (and juice) for the sweet, since we don't care for sweet pickles. This is a GREAT recipe. My family loves it, and that's saying a lot.

Teriyaki Salmon

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2013
Love, love, love this recipe! I've made it twice now. First time I marinated as directed and it was decent. Second time I marinated it all afternoon and it was to DIE for!!! I didn't broil but just baked the salmon, basting it a few times with the reserved marinade. My son even asked for seconds, which he NEVER does with fish. His sister told him she wasn't giving up her salmon when he asked! I'm making this again very soon.

Fruit and Cream Pie I

Reviewed: May 21, 2013
I was looking for a copy-cat recipe from a diner we used to frequent in my childhood. All I remember was that it was fresh strawberries and lots of fluffy 'white stuff.' I found this recipe and it's so close -- plus very very delicious!! I've been making it every year (5 years now I think) when the local strawberries are in season.

Fish Chowder

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2013
We LOVE this chowder! I've made it twice in the past month (and my family rarely likes repeats, except of true favorite dishes). I added chopped carrots and a can of clams (including the juice). Also increased the Old Bay (esp since we live in Maryland!!!) to 1 tsp+. Awesome recipe, thank you for sharing!

Chicago-Style Hot Dog

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2013
We love making these! I always serve the ingredients chopped up in bowls so each person can 'dress' their own dog to their liking. (of course, best is made as-written, but not everyone in the family likes all the ingredients) I can't find sport peppers locally so I chop up some good pepperoncini peppers and they work well.

Key Lime Pie VII

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2013
This is THE BEST pie. We make it every year, when we can find key limes. Takes a while to squeeze all those little key limes, but it's SO worth it!!

Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2013
Excellent stuff! I did season it a little (poultry seasoning, rosemary) but it's really good as-is too! It's great when I find a recipe the entire family enjoys.

Cheesy Italian Tortellini

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2013
My family likes tortellini but we did not like this recipe. There were leftovers so I added 'regular' pasta and extra sauce to it and everyone said it was much, much better that way. I won't make this again.

Slow Cooker Lemon Garlic Chicken II

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2013
My kids liked this a lot, which is a great review in itself!!! But I do agree with the reviewers that said the chicken turned out tasteless. Seemed the carrots I added soaked up all the taste but the chicken didn't!! I did thicken the juices at the end to serve over the chicken (and rice that I served with it), so that definitely saved dinner. I'll make this again, keeping all this in miind.

Quick Hoppin' John Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2013
Excellent soup!!!!! I used turkey sausage (mild, b/c the store was out of hot - so I added hot pepper flakes) and browned that with celery, onion and garlic. Subbed Rotel for one can of tomatoes. Spiced it up with a bay leaf and a bit of Emeril's "essence." My daughter (a professed soup-hater) LOVED it and even my son (hates beans) ate about half a bowl. I would have kept eating and eating it if I hadn't gotten full! I will definitely make this again and again. Thank you!!!

Oatmeal and Wheat Flour Blueberry Pancakes

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2013
Made these for the first time this morning. Used applesauce instead of oil. As some other reviewers mentioned, I let the batter 'stand' for a few minutes to let it poof. The result was great pancakes that the kids loved! My kids aren't big on 'health food,' so the fact that they loved these was a big plus!
