J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2009
I'm a much better cook than a baker, so taking that into consideration I'd say these came out pretty good! I'll definately try this again, but I'll use butter instead of shortening, as most people have suggested.

Steff's Shepherd Pie

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2009
I never had shepherds pie with green beans before, always mixed veggies or peas and carrots, but I really liked this. The only thing I did different was saute the onions with the beef, and add extra cheddar to the potatoes. My husband did ask if I'd be insulted if he reached for the hot sauce, but I wasn't because he puts hot sauce on everything anyway! I'll definately make this again, for the simplicity of it.

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2009
This one tops the fluffy pancake recipe I tried a few months ago - I believe they have a MUCH better flavor, so this is the one I will stick to from now on!

Italian Pasta Salad I

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2009
This was great! I used bowtie pasta and about 2 tbs of white onion, since I had no red onion. I added shredded mozzarella cheese and black pepper, too. Loved the dressing combo and we liked it best served at room temperature. Will definately make again.

Sweet Restaurant Slaw

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2009
I've been using the jarred slaw dressing for years, but wanted a more homemade taste yesterday, so tried this recipe. I used 1/4 cup sugar and no poppy seeds - my boyfriend no longer wants me to buy the jarred stuff again - he and I both loved it!

Oil Pie Crust

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2009
My Mother passed down an oil recipe, with the same ingredients, but different ratios. Try sifting 2 cups of flour and 1 tsp. salt. In one measuring cup, measure 1/2 cup oil then add 1/4 cup milk to it. Fold that into the flour mixture. Use immediately. THIS is a no-fail 5 star pie crust!

Homemade Crispy Seasoned French Fries

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2009
I doubled the seasonings, using onion powder instead of onion salt, but it just lacked flavor for me. A lot of work too, for not such a grand result. If I do try this again, I will try beer instead of water, and add some cayenne and black pepper.

Creamy Hollandaise Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2009
I've made this recipe twice now, but because I'm only cooking for two, I had to cut it half both times. The Worcestershire came out too fast the first time, and not considering that, I still added salt! You can imagine what a salty mess it was! I was much more successful the second time. Even though I am normally a salt freak, after my last experience I didn't add any the second time around. Sure glad I didn't - it was still salty, but very easy and good. I'll probably make it again, cuz my BF LOVES Eggs Benedict!

Grandma's Doughnuts

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2009
What a delicious, easy treat! I used large buttermilk biscuits, and the cap off a soda bottle to make the holes. They really puff up nice and big! Just be careful not to over-cook them, they will taste greasy. Besides dipping cinnamon-sugar and powdered sugars, I dipped some in "dipping chocolate", let it sit in the fridge till it hardened, and man, was that good! I'm making some again this weekend!

Jalapeno Popper Spread

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2009
Wow! This was fantastic! As others suggested, I doubled the jalapenos, and so glad I did, because it was perfect. I also topped it with both parmesan and panko crumbs, baked for 30 minutes, then broiled till a nice crust formed - everyone just loved it! I served it with Scoops, and French mini toasts (my personal favorite), and it was gone in no time! Can't wait to make it again!

Blooming Onion and Dipping Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2009
I made only the dipping sauce to go with the old-fashioned onion ring recipe from this site and it was fantastic - I may cut the horseradish to 1 tablespoon next time though.

Old Fashioned Onion Rings

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2009
Finally, my search for the best onion ring recipe is over! These were just fantastic- I served it with the Blooming Onion dipping sauce from this site, and it was a match made in heaven! I'll be trying this with Vidalia onions next time and bet it will be even better, if that's possible!

Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2009
These were the thickest fluffiest pancakes I've ever had! I will add vanilla next time though, or add more sugar. No more bisquick pancakes for my family! No sir!

Sausage and Egg Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2008
I actually made this the night before Christmas Eve - it sat in the fridge till I baked it Christmas morning, but it turned out fine. Almost all was eaten between 5 people. I used hot sausage and will definately not change that, but next time I think I'll add fresh mushrooms or green pepper and onions.

Cheese Ring

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2008
I used half sharp and half mild cheddars, spread strawberry preserves all over the ring and served it with Triscuits and Ritz crackers. Everyone was so surprised how delicious the cheese/jelly combination was, they couldn't stop eating it - not a drop was left!

Spiced Pecans

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2008
I doubled the recipe for my Christmas Eve party, put in only half the amount of cloves it called for and what a hit! The word "addictive" was heard all around the room!

Cajun Style Meatloaf

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2008
Well, my BF'S favorite meatloaf USED to be Paula Deen's Bacon Cheeseburger Meatloaf, but now he says he likes this one even better! We both like spicy food, and we agreed that the surface crunch is what really makes this one stand out. (You should definately place the loaf on a baking rack, as this promotes a lot of grease). I did forget to buy some green onions for this, so just used 1 cup chopped regular onion, and when I reached for the nutmeg I was out of it! So I don't know what the nutmeg might have added to it, but it didn't appear to need it. This will be made many, many times!

Restaurant-Style Buffalo Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2008
Fantastic! I will do my wings this way from now on - only next time I will use a different hot sauce...I used Tabasco Habanero sauce, way too spicy for me! I just dipped them in lot of blue cheese!

The Best Bacon-Tomato Dip

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2008
I'm not big on ranch dressing, so I didn't want to do as others suggested, so I bought ranch-flavored potato chips for the dipper. I felt a little of this dip goes a long way, and my BF, who is a big bacon lover didn't care for it. I love all the ingredients so I can't figure out what's wrong with it! I'm going to buy some corn chips and see if that helps.

Italian Salad Dressing

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2008
I liked the sweetness in this dressing; made it quite different and everyone enjoyed it. I'll try it again with the olive oil since so many others said it tasted even better.
