Broccoli Cheese Soup V

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2013
I made this recipe as stated with the following exceptions: I used 1 lb of Velveeta and 8 oz of cheddar (instead of all Velveeta) and I added some garlic. It was very good made this way; creamy texture and lovely flavor. I am not sure we would have liked it as much made with all Velveeta.

My Amish Friend's Caramel Corn

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2010
Truly wonderful! So much better than anything I have ever tasted before (I’m used to the stuff you buy in the candy aisle at the grocery store for a couple of bucks). It really is gift worthy. Thanks for posting!

Husband's Delight

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2010
This is a nice basic recipe that is tasty "as is" but is truly great when you modify it to suit your own family's preferences. I used red bell pepper, tomato sauce (instead of diced), Worcestershire, garlic, pepper, and onions in the meat sauce and then added green onions (instead of regular onions) to the cream cheese mixture. Nice, simple, tasty comfort food!

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2010
This recipe is truly deserving of all the praises it has received. I baked the rolls at 350F for 25 minutes (as other suggested) and my husband said "You did good, dear." Pretty strong praise for him! I can't say whether they tasted identical to the real thing (I haven't had a real one for years), but they were way more than good enough for me. Thanks for posting this awesome recipe.

Cream Cheese Kolacky

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2007
These were really very good tasting and very simple to make. I am ashamed to admit that I ate 5 before they had even completely cooled!!! I found the dough extremely easy to work with (I refrigerated it overnight) and I used confectioner's sugar to roll it out, as another review suggested. I was careful to measure the squares, and recipe made 26 normal size ones plus 1 huge one that I made as an experiment. Both sizes took about 12 minutes to bake and both tasted great. I placed 3/4 level teaspoon Solo raspberry filling in each normal sized square and had no problem with the filing leaking. I think I am going to double the recipe next time and make all huge ones to cut down on the work some since my husband could pop 2 of the regular sized ones in a single bite.

Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2007
I am well aware that this recipe doesn't need yet another rave review, but I am going to give it one anyway! The soup is simply incredible and extremly easy to make! One of the top three soups I have ever tasted -- let alone made myself!! I kept pretty close to the original recipe, with the exception of: adding chipotle in adobo sauce and jalepenos instead of green chili peppers (because I didn't have any), using homemade enchilada sauce, and using only chicken broth (no water). What I love about it the most is that it isn't just spicy, it is wonderfully flavorful too. Thanks for a great recipe, Elena!

Turkey Patties

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2006
I just made these and I think the flavors hold a lot of promise. I can't speak to the texture because I made mine super soft for my toddler by adding milk-soaked bread. Despite the fact that I doubled the garlic, added a small amount of salt, pepper, and sesame oil, they were still a bit bland. The next time I make this I am going to add more of all the flavor ingredients I used this time (garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, pepper, and salt). By the way, for those of you that find the meat dry, you might want to try a trick suggested by Cook's Illustrated: add 1/2 cup of ricotta cheese for each 1.25 lbs of 93% lean ground turkey. They say it makes the burgers moist and chewy.

Cake Mix Cookies IV

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2006
I just made these and they taste wonderful. They have a nice flavor and texture; sort of chewy and cakey at the same time. I used Betty Crocker Super Moist Butter Recipe Yellow Cake Mix (rated as most preferred yellow mix by Cook's Illustrated) and butterscotch chips. Maybe they are a tiny bit oily, but personally I don't mind it. Yum!!

Lemon Whippersnappers

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2006
I love these cookies; they are my current favorite! They taste so much better than I thought they would based on the recipe. They have a nice lemon flavor and a really different texture -- kind of soft, chewy, and cakey all at the same time. Very tasty!

Sausage Egg Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2006
Wonderful! I made half a batch and cooked it in an 8x8 pan and it turned out just great. I forget how long it took as I was paying more attention to the color and the firmness than the clock. I was a bit doubtful about the flour/butter mixture, but I stirred in the little crumbles a small amount at a time and it tasted fine. In fact, it was even a little hard to spot them in the final cooked casserole. I will be making this recipe again for sure!!

Basic Yankee Bread Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2006
We really enjoyed this stuffing. I made it the day ahead (using fresh herbs, mushrooms, and quite a bit more broth than the recipe called for) and then reheated it the next day for our Thanksgiving meal. Very easy and very tasty!

Chicken and Stuffing Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2004
I LOVED this dish!! It is very simple both in preparation and appearance, but extremely tasty. I was looking for a recipe that would taste similar to Stouffer's Chicken and Stuffing Bake and this is it. While it's delicious just as is, next time I might add onions, carrots, or celery just to be a little creative.

Mijo's Slow Cooker Shredded Beef

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2003
We found this to be a fantastic dish! While I did tweak the seasonings a bit to taste (I added more of the recipe's seasonings and then some beef bouillon granules), I kept it pretty close to the original recipe. Extremely easy and extremely tasty. We will be making this again soon!

My husband I liked this dish, but I can't say we loved it. It was certainly more than acceptable, but I probably won't be making it again.

Cranberry Sauce Chicken II

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2002
This is one of my absolute favorite dishes! The chicken is moist, the flavor is wonderful, and on top of that, it is really simple to make. I also used whole cranberries for the sauce - yum! This recipe is similar to Apricot Chicken that uses apricot preserves instead of cranberries. It is also very tasty!

Excellent dish!! Just careful with the pepper– I only used 2 tsp and it was still very peppery. No complaints though, we loved it!

Kim's Zippy Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2002
Nice flavor. I adapted the recipe a bit in order to make it into a gravy and I had to use beef bouillon granules because I didn't have any drippings. Despite those changes it still turned out quite well!

Li'l Cheddar Meat Loaves

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2002
I am afraid that we did not enjoy this dish very much. While the meatloaf was moist and the texture was quite nice, we did not find it to be flavorful. Neither of us could taste the cheese. In fact, the term “bland” came up several times during the meal. The sauce was good, though. In short, it was edible but not something we would ever want to have again. Probably just us since most everyone else liked it.

Chicken and Wild Rice Casserole

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2002
Somewhat mixed reviews on this one. I ate the casserole immediately after it was finished and I loved it!! (5 stars). My husband ate it five hours later and thought it was OK (3.5 stars). I took a bite then too, and I have to admit it didn't taste as good to me either. So, freshly prepared it's great but as leftovers, it's a bit less than great. This is relevant because it makes a huge amount! Probably 6 - 8 servings. Small point: to make 12 oz of rice according to my package directions you need 4 cups of liquid (way more than the 2 allowed for in the recipe).

Anniversary Chicken I

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2002
My husband and I found this dish to be very tasty. I marinated the chicken in the teriyaki sauce before I sautéed them and I used real bacon instead of bits. The flavor was excellent!! My only criticism would be the appearance; the oil separated from the cheese and dressing and the grease just sort of floated around in the sauce. In fact, it looked so unappealing, I wasn't even sure I wanted to eat it until tasted the chicken….. Absolutely delicious!
