Butter Chickpea Curry

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2012
This is 5 stars with some modifications: cauliflower is WAY better. A little more curry powder and some more heat is good. I use diced tomatoes instead of soup. Cream or coconut milk is a must. Also, there are tons of different kinds of garam masalas out there so you should add that based on how it tastes.

Thai Green Curry Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2012
This is my junk! I make it just as directed except I add 1/4-1/3 cup of peas at the end and a little chilli powder to the sauce while cooking. I think next time I'll try it with thighs and breasts. Also, if you can find unrefined sugar (brown sugar that's not THE brown sugar) it's much better and not as sweet as using white sugar. I guess if anything, I would reduce the amount of chicken by a few grams.

Greek Grilled Cheese

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2012
A good twist on the classic grilled cheese. I make this every now and again, as directed, and it's always good.

Slow Cooker Texas Pulled Pork

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2012
Decent recipe, but I felt that the sauce was too spicy and watery. I wound up just saving the sauce for later and using BBQ sauce on top of the pork. After about a week, I reduced the original sauce, added a drop of liquid smoke and added some honey and then used as a wing sauce which turned out awesome.

Garbanzo Bean and Sausage Stew

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2012
Really good, but definitely highly dependent on the flavor of the sausage. I used "ardelenesc" sausage that you can find here in Romania and it was awesome. I don't think it would be as good with italian sausage, but maybe that's just a personal thing. It probably would be really good with kielbasa.

Good stuff. Good for you too. Can't wait until it's not so dang hot out so I can make it again.

Ethiopian Cabbage Dish

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2012
Not really that good in my opinion. I would have given this 2 stars but I made it a second time and used less cabbage which then bumped it up to 3 stars.

Lentils and Rice with Fried Onions (Mujadarrah)

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2012
I make this on the regular. Super easy, super good and super good for you. I always add a bullion cube and a tbsp of cumin to the lentils, and I add a little cinnamon to the onions. White onions are better than yellow if you can find them.

Halushki

Reviewed: May 30, 2011
Waaaaaay too much cabbage. This dish really lacks flavor too and it was a disappointment. I won't make it again.

Hearty Split Pea Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2011
This soup is the bomb diggity. It's the first 5-star rating I've ever given. The only subs I made were instead of water, I used bouillon. I used some bacon-esque "ham" that I fried first and then sauteed the onions in the oil. Everything else I left the same. I'm gonna make some more tomorrow.

Roasted Vegetables

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2011
Good and healthy. I had trouble getting certain veggies since I live in Romania but I made some substitutions and it was still good. I would second the person who said to cook the "root" veggies first though. This was huge.

Add a some potatoes and thicken up the sauce and you have yourself a real Irish stew. With these modifications it was absolutely excellent.

Broccoli and Sausage Cavatelli

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2011
A little on the bland side all by itself but you can easily fix that with a little more spice. I'd like to try it with mushrooms sometime when the wife isn't around. Overall a solid meal!

Slow Cooker Creamy Potato Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2011
Pretty decent. Make sure to use milk or evaporated milk and not buttermilk or sour creme because otherwise it will turn out more like mashed potatoes. It definitely needs something sweet and not sour.

Chicken and Apple Curry

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2011
Great recipe! Make sure to use granny smith or other sour apple. The more sour the better. Also, take the advice of others and add more spices. I will definitely make this again though.

Kielbasa Fried Rice

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2011
This is a dish we make more often these days. I would re-emphasize using left-over rice as opposed to fresh rice. Also, you probably don't need the oil; the sausage we use has enough oil so I brown the meat first and then fry everything in the sausage oil. The trick is getting flavorful, spicy sausage (if you don't use kielbasa), which adds more flavor because otherwise it's bland.
