About this Cook
I'm an at home mum who loves to cook and bake and try new things. I love American recipes having spent my childhood in it's influence. I have a terrible habit of going shopping and refusing to buy processed packaged food with the mantra "I'm sure I can make that". The least preservatives the better. There are several nights a week when pasta is on the menu because I can't be bothered cooking and it's quick. That said, I do have a fully stocked kitchen so no excuses really. I make my own bread usually a couple of loaves once a week and I'm hoping to try cheese, when the house is clean enough. There is not an hour goes by when I am not thinking about food and what I can make/bake.
My favorite things to cook
I have a sweet tooth so cookies, cakes, brownies, cookies, sweets, cookies...did I say cookies already? Hehe. I also love to make the family meals, anything considered.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking traditions haven't really happened yet but I'm working on making sure that when my kids leave home, they have their own versions of cook books that they have made with the recipes we love!!!
My cooking triumphs
All my cooking is triumphant by the mere fact that we are still alive! My triumphs really are being able to use the fruit and vegetables from my allotment to make soups and sides. There is nothing more satisfying than eating a soup that you've grown yourself, with a hunk of home-made bread. That's living!
My cooking tragedies
No out and out disasters that I can remember but I will, of course, keep this updated. Oooh, unless you count just after we were first married, I "heated" up a meal in our new flat fitted with a fan assisted oven. I had never used one before and there was no manual so I did what I thought was right and needless to say dinner was burnt to a crisp and I sobbed my heart out to my new husband that I was useless and he would starve being married to me! Well, it's now 22yrs later and he has been well fed, I promise ;-) (but I'm cooking with gas now!)

Bourbon Whiskey BBQ Sauce
I made this as stated only I didn't have bourbon whisky so just used my DH's Scots Blend. While it was boiling we both leaned over and took a big sniff and nearly cried. It burns your sinuses something wicked. It is amazing and have the most wonderful sauce that goes with anything. I have kept it now for three weeks in the fridge and it's still fine. Nice one for bottling for Christmas! I'm sure that my family would appreciate it.

Maple Glazed Ribs
OOooh, this is so tasty. My kids and I have a sweet tooth but my husband is a savoury man. Well, when I made these the other night there (baked in casserole dish for 3hrs lid off for final 1/2 hr) he could not stop raving about it and has been nagging me to make more ever since. It's a really easy recipe with pretty much store cupboard stuff and I'm looking forward to using it on different cuts of meat to see what it's like. Thank you this one's a keeper!

Best Toffee Ever - Super Easy
The taste was divine and it turned out great. The problem was that I was expecting toffee and this (to us Brits) is more like brittle. Toffee, to Brits, is chewy and this was crisp. It is delicious and I will definately make it again but probably more as a Christmas gift! Superb buttery taste though. Nice.
