French Apple Pie with Cream Cheese Topping

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2005
Not very good warm, but pretty good after it was in the fridge overnight. I think 45 min might be a little too long in the oven, because the edges are kind of tough compared to the rest of it, so if I make it agian, I'll try 35 or 40 min instead.

Too Much Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2004
Wow, they're not joking when they say there's a lot of chocolate! I even put chocolate frosting on it... I think the cake was excellent, and the only thing I'll do differently next time is leave out the chocolate chips. I felt like with the frosting (with any frosting, really) the chocolate chips don't fit in right. I think I might try this recipe again, doing everything the same, except omiting the chocolate chips and putting in a can of cherry pie filling instead, so it could be like a cherry fudge cake.

Boston Cream Pie II

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2004
I was very pleased with the outcome of this recipe. I needed more chocolate to coat the cake, so I doubled the chocolate coating part. The cream turned out great, and the cakes were light, fluffy, and delicious. My only complaint is that it took so long to make and was eaten up so fast! Very impressive looking and delicious, will make it for a holiday/family gathering.

Aunt Teen's Creamy Chocolate Fudge

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2004
I think with a few tweaks, this would be an excellent fudge recipe. I can see how it might be too sweet for some (but every tooth in my mouth is a sweet tooth, so I think it's great!). Otherwise, the richness and smoothness/creaminess of the fudge was right on. However, the consistancy of my fudge was not firm enough, probably because I was trying to cook a few other things at the same time so I neglected to make exact measurements and stir as much as I probably should have. It took a long time for the first set of ingredients to blend, and I brought the mixture down to lo heat to blend the chocolate chips in. Right now, after a few hours in the fridge, it's at the consistancy of canned fudge (like for icecream) but I put it in the frezer and it seems more like the somewhat firm fudge that I'm used to. Make sure not to add too much evaporated milk.

Garlic Mashed Potatoes Secret Recipe

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2004
THE BEST MASHED POTATOES EVER. The best thing about this recipe is that it's very adaptable. I scaled it down to ten servings (5lbs of potatoes) and used Yukon instead of red. I boiled the garlic with the potatoes, then poured all the garlic off, and when I added garlic into the mashed potatoes, I used about half the recommended garlic, which I had baking in the oven. I used a little less than the suggested amount of Romano cheese (I followed what others said and kind of tasted as I went) because I found that they tasted perfect before I added everything. I made these for easter and I think they're delicious!

Hot Bacon Asparagus Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2004
Very disappointing. The asparagus had a kind of funny/tangy flavor that really stood out in the salad. Even my father, who usually likes everything, didn't like this. Not a recipe I'll use again.

Baked Ziti I

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2004
Reminds me of the "American Lasagna" recipe, except it takes less time to make. I'll use a larger pan next time, though, seeing as I could hardly fit everything into the one I had. Very delicious.

Judy's Strawberry Pretzel Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2004
Wonderful! Everybody loved it. I have to admit that I wasn't sure whether or not it would be very good because I thought this combination of ingredients seemed strange, but it turned out great! I wish I would have used a bigger pan, though, because mine was kind of overflowing and it would have been nice to have even more of it.

Irresistible Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2004
Amazing! The texture of this bread was really dense and rich, like a cross between store-bought-bread and cake. The flavor was really light, like there was kind of a sweet aftertaste. My parents both loved it and I can't stop eating it. I'm going to make it all year round, not just for St. Patrick's Day.

Strawberry Spinach Salad I

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2004
I was pleasantly surprised by this recipe. I have to admit that I was a little afraid when I saw paprika, strawberries, and spinach all together in the same recipe.. but I decided to trust the previous ratings and give it a try. Wow! I followed the recipe exactly and it was great! It looked beautiful and overall tasted like strawberry. My parents were really impressed and I know I'll be making this again.

Strawberry Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2004
I wish there were more than five stars, because this recipe definantly deserves more! It's really original and tastes great. I was a little worried at first.. starwberries in bread seemed kind of weird. But once it's all cooked, the strawberries fit right in and it kind of reminded me of having pound cake with sliced strawberries. I'm really excited about this recipe because I think I can also substitute other fruits, too. I can't wait to try. This is great!

Breaded Chicken Fingers

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2004
I didn't really like this recipe, I wanted to give it a 3, but my parents really liked it, and my mom thought it deserved a 5, so I compromised and gave it a 4. It certainly doesn't put any chicken nuggets to shame... it was pretty good, but it wasn't really anything spectacular and I think all the hours it spent soaking up garlic/buttermilk in the fridge didn't really do much. I wanted something with a little more flavor. Maybe if I make it again I will add some fresh minced garlic to exaggerate the flavor.

Sugar Coated Pecans

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2004
Delicious! I used vanilla extract instead of water and used 2 egg whites instead of just one, and it turned out great! I ate some a few minutes after they came out of the oven and they tasted sooo good. I also had some left over, and they're just as good. Both my parents offered kudos as well.

Ravioli Dolci (Sweet Ravioli)

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2004
These are pretty good when you want something kind of light. They're kind of like two butter cookies with some fruit filling between them. Maybe on taste, they were four stars, but because they were so cute I had to give them five stars. They were also really fun to make. I used cherry, raspberry, and peach preserves (Smuckers) I liked the raspberry ones the best because they were the most tart. I think the only thing I will do differently if I make these again is to put more filling in each one. I used just 1/4 teaspoon of filling per square like the recipe said, but I found that I wanted to taste the fruit a little bit more once I actually ate them.

Baked Orange Roughy Italian-Style

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2004
This recipe was pretty good, but I'd probably be dissapointed if I ordered it at a restaurant. The leftovers were really good, though. I think it would be better to use dry parsley flakes than fresh chopped parsley, because in the leftovers it tasted a little overpowering. Overall, very good!

Wiener Schnitzel

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2004
I'm sure if I had lived in Germany at some point in my life, this recipe would have some sort of sentimental value and somehow hit the spot... but it really didn't do much for me. It was pretty good as far a flavor, but the crust was really easy to flake off in the pan if you flipped the meat so many times and also it was kind of messy to dip all the pieces into flour, egg, and bread crumbs. Overall okay, but not worth the hassle for the result that is produced.

Chocolate Covered Cherry Cookies II

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2004
This was great! I was a little afraid to try it at first because there weren't that many ratings or reviews (although they all seemed to be positive) but I thought I wanted to try to make a different kind of cookie, besides the usual boring chocolate chip or sugar cookies. This was absolutely wonderful! I followed the recipe exactly and everything turned out great, not too sweet and has just the right flavor. The cherry in the middle really makes them unique and fun. I'm going to make these again and again. They'll show up at family gatherings in the future for sure!

Braised Balsamic Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2004
This recipe was pretty good. I was looking for a different way to make chicken, and the balsamic vinegar hooked me. It turned out tender and somewhat elegent with all the onions, tomatoes, and spices, but it really lacked something in flavor for me. I guess one should expect it to taste like balsamic vinegar, which it did, but it didn't really have any zing/punch to it. It was kind of sweet and flat, but it was alright. Probably not something I'll make again.

Baked Vegetables I

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2004
These are the most tasty vegetables I've ever made at home before. I used potatoes, carrots, peppers, and broccoli (instead of zuccini) and wished I'd put in even more. I bought a dry powder soup/dip package of Garlic Herb and it worked out great. Also, I left the skin on the potatoes (I used small red ones) and boiled them before baking so that they would be sure to be cooked. I also put the veggies in one of those oven bags so I could lock in the flavor and moisture. It only took me 25 min to finish baking them in the bag, and everything tasted great. Thanks for whoever submitted this recipe!

Basil Tomato Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2004
I hate porkchops, but in an effort to do something nice for my dad, I decided to make some. My mom came home and said "ewwww.. porkchops, what are you making those for???" But I made them anyway and expected them to be like the usual bland piece of chewy meat, except with some vegetables on top, but instead, they were great! They were the least chewy porkchops I've ever had and they had so much flavor! They even looked pretty with the sauce and side of asparagus I made on a plate.. it looked AND tasted like something from a restaurant. Even my mom liked it... she didn't say anything bad! In fact, I saw her sneaking some leftovers in her lunch the next day. We all agreed they were the best porkchops we'd ever had.
