Lentils and Rice with Fried Onions (Mujadarrah)

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2002
This recipe DID seem too bland for me, so I added two minced garlic cloves and 1 tsp of minced ginger as well as 1 Tablespoon of Curry powder to the fried onions. I also put one chicken bouillon cube in the water with the lentils and rice. Was VERY good like this...and we topped it with sour cream....nummy!

Applesauce Sandwich

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2002
Ooooooohhhohohohohohohoh..... This was SO tasty...and not so unhealthy (and a WINNER of a bedtime snack). I added a bit of cinnamon to the applesauce...it was sort of apple pie like.

Savory Corn Flatbread

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2002
Ummm...I'm still trying to figure out what to say about this. It's....different. It's...pasty. It needed a lot more water than two tablespoons. It is...not good...but not horrible either. It is edible. I'm thinking about using it as a base for taco pizza. Try it...it's easy enough and if someone can figure out a modification for this recipe that makes it a lot better...let me know. However, I am going to use it for a taco pizza base for my lunch, but I don't think I'll make it again.

SOOOO nummy! Best with Natural (no sugar added) Chunky peanut butter. Of course, I add more choc. chips as well. JUST like the ones that sell for 1.85 a piece at the bakery up the street. Thanks!

Gramma's Date Squares

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2003
I did as one reviewer suggested and only used 1 cup of oats and flour and this turned out FAHBULOUS! If you really pat the topping down into the pan, I found it held together fine. So good. I just LOVE date bars, and this was my first attempt at making them. Delicious!

Creamy Rice Pudding

We absolutely LOVE this recipe! My entire family will gobble up a double batch of this in one day...they like it for breakfast, snack AND lunch...oh and dessert too. We even added a bit of frozen coolwhip on top (can you say *munchies!*) OH SO GOOD!

Garlic and Rosemary Shrimp

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2003
This was absolutely fabulous. We ate it over spaghetti noodles with broiled garlic bread. All we needed was a nice bottle of wine and it would have been perfect. I did not have white wine and so used cooking sherry (I omitted the salt since the sherry is so salty). And I used red wine vinegar instead of white wine vinegar...still, great.

Chicken Milano

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2004
Splendiferous!! I cut the chicken into bite sized pieces and dipped in egg then italian seasoned breadcrumbs...THEN I stirfried it till done (not as fancy, but just easier for me). I found that I did not have to thicken the sauce...I just let it reduce through simmering on the stove until the pasta was nearly finished. SO GOOD!

Sweet and Sour Pork I

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2004
I found this recipe really easy, but I did not deep fry the pork...just did it as directed in 2 Tbsp of oil for 10 minutes. With constant stirfrying it did not burn at all....SO tasty! We had it over crispy fried chinese noodles YUM

Chinese Style Sesame Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2004
This was excellent. I found that for a little over a pound of chicken (stirfried) I only needed a little over a third of this sauce. I froze the rest...I hope it freezes well. I also added 1 Tbsp of toasted sesame seeds to the chicken/sauced dish. VERY GOOD. Reminiscent of food court chinese food.

Hot Fudge Sauce II

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2004
This was very good AND easy to make. I also halved the recipe and only used 2/3 of a cup of evap. milk. Be careful that you bring the sauce to a boil over a med-low heat...it is very easy to burn the chocolate and it gives it a burnt flavour that is NOT good. It takes a long time to get it to boil at this temp, but it is worth it!

Crisp Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2004
I used only a 1/4 cup of nuts. A combination of sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds and coconut (all raw). I used raisins instead of choc. chips. I also added a 1/4 tsp. of cinnamon. They turned out really nummy! OH, and btw...I screwed up with the measurements of the nuts. I MEANT to add the full 1/2 cup...but for whatever reason I only ended up with a 1/4 cup. Whatever...still good. But in the future I'd use more nuts/seeds. I think this would also be good with sunflower seeds.

Midwestern House Salad Dressing

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2004
I've made this twice now, and end up quadrupling the Worcestershire sauce, omit the honey and add more brown sugar and add LOTS more pepper. It is still pretty tame for my taste, but my husband and son LOVE it!

Oven Pot Roast

My family absolutely LOVES this recipe. I'm not a big pot roast fan...nor roast of any kind for that matter, but this apparently is right up my carnivorous husband's alley. He asks for it all the time!

Ginny's Cheezy Macaroni

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2004
This was the easiest thing ever to put together!!!!! I made a few additions, though, as my family likes a doctored up macaroni and cheese: I added six hot dogs (sliced) to the macaroni. I added a small can of diced tomatoes, 1 Tablespoon of prepared mustard and 1/2 tsp of Worcestershire sauce and 2 Tablespoons of diced onion to the milk before I poured it over the top. I also added a bit more cheese (a 1/2 cup more???). Otherwise, I did everything according to the directions. It was quite moist with a nice crust of browned cheese on top. The flavour was FABULOUS and all in all we really liked it. We don't usually eat a baked macaroni and cheese, but this was SO easy and SO flavourful!!! A definate keeper.

Indiana-Style Fried Cabbage

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2004
We really enjoyed this recipe. That being said, I did change a couple of things. I did not add the butter but did not drain the bacon (there was only about a tablespoon and a half of drippings...maybe we used lean bacon??). When I added the veggies, I did not cover it, but fried it on medium heat, uncovered--stirring every 2 minutes or so--for about 12 minutes. This gave it a bit of a brown or "fried" taste. THEN I covered it and turned it down to low and let it steam for another 10 minutes or so. I added a minced clove of garlic and only half of a pepper (as we aren't huge pepper fans). Otherwise, we followed the recipe. Again, REALLY good.
