Corned Beef and Cabbage II

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2012
What a meal!! I added 24oz of Guinness draught, and added beef broth to cover the meat. Used crushed garlic instead of powdered, more onion. Also cubed and sauteed 2 rutabaggas and added at the same time as the potatoes. It took about 1/2 hour for the potatoes and cabbage to get done. Served Carol46's horseradish sauce from AR. Also made Penguin ladie's Irish soda bread also from AR. Thanks to all the contributers for a great St. Pat Day

Beer Batter for Fish

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2012
Great batter, did the full recipe for a few fish. Next day had grandkids to feed, didn't have any chicken fingers to cook up, so we did buzzard butts instead (chunks of chicken breast that was for stif fry). They really liked it, wanted more for breakfast the next day. Great recipe can be used for anything. Thanks for sharing

Beer Butt Rosemary Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2012
I try to have something nontraditional to go along with the traditional at our Christmas dinner, and this was it this year. As the oven was already in use I cooked on the grill with indirect heat. I did get a stand for the chicken stood it on a roasting pan. Was a big hit. Thanks for sharing

Jagerschnitzel

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2011
About 40 years ago I would go to Germany semi regularly. Not enough to get the language or the menus down well. I remember this as being "don't matter where you are, it's good". Served this recipe verbatum tonight, and got all kinds of "Wow's". Don't remeber if this is the same as I was eating back then, but it is fine dining now, and will be served again. Think that I will add some garlic and worchestershire next time. Thanks for posting this recipe.

Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2012
My 1st time making Soda bread, and this turned out fantastic. I only used 1 cup of raisins which I had plumped, omitted the caraway seeds, thought that we had some....didn't. Baked for 70 minutes, which was just right for my oven. Earlier I prepped the cast iron skillet and put it out of the way. I realized the error while I was kneading. Had to call my wife in to get the skillet for me she couldn't beleave that gooie mess was going to turn out into bread, and if I hadn't read the ratings here I too would have been adding more flour to make it "look right". Thanks for sharing, will be making this again and before St Pat Day.

Sweet Restaurant Slaw

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2011
I think that I have found my favorite slaw recipe. Didn't have any poppy seeds on hand, so I just omitted that step. Made this for "hillbillie hot dogs", and something came up that we didn't eat this till 3 days later. I figured that it would be watery, and it wasn't. Next time I will have the poppy seeds. Thanks for sharing.

Caramel-Apple Crisp

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2011
Served this last evening using Dessertlover's Classic Carmel Sauce. Made a double batch and between 5 no left overs. We all really overate, but it was sooo good. I did serve with vanilla icecream and put additional sauce over it all. Used granny smith apples, and had no problem with any excess moisture, in fact with out the icecream it would have been on the dry side. Thanks for sharing this, will be on our table again we liked it so much, and we seldom have desserts.

Mom's Chicken Cacciatore

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2011
I used 4 chicken breasts, and followed the recipe. Mine was coming out much dryier than I wanted. I added more wine, and a can of tomatoe sauce. We had unexpected company for supper. To hear them I am one of the best cooks in the world (free meals do that). All said and done I was proud of the meal. Thanks Jana for sharing.

Spiced Bacon Twists

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2011
I did a double batch, because I thought that it sounded great. 1st taste I thought that it was a waste of good bacon. Then somewhere on about my 4th slice. I realized these suckers are addictive! I think that I could eat them all, and be happy.

Bourbon Whiskey BBQ Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2011
This has become my "secret" recipe. Like mashed potatoes, I leave it "chunky", so that everyone knows that it is homemade. This is great as is, and is very flexable for experimenting. I always make a double batch so that I have a reserve. You do need to let this "age". Thanks for sharing.

Classic Goulash

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2011
The good thing about cooler weather, we can get back to the good comfort food. Made this a few days ago, and it was a big hit at the supper table. I didn't have any soy sauce, so I subbed worcestershire. We like spicey. I added about 1/2t each of chili powder and paprika, also the can of tomatoes had jalapenos in it. Great meal. Thank you pathunt.

Grilled Bacon Jalapeno Wraps

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2011
!st time I made these I followed the recipe, and thought that they were really good. Could be the size of my peppers (I thought that they were large), but I had plenty of filling left, enough for 12 peppers. What I added to the cream cheese: seeds and membrane (minced) from 3 peppers, some habanero cheese, pkg of Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning. I get thin sliced bacon and I halve it length wise. Always a big hit with everyone, but the gerber mouths. I also use a veggie tray on the grill.

Horseradish Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2012
Made this a few days ago and left sit for the flavors to meld. Served it yesterday with the Corned Beef and most everyone loved it. Some people just don't appreceate good flavor. I didn't have any mayo; used miracle whip instead. We like our sauce to nip back so I added about 1 tee more horseradish. Couldn't a 1/8 t measure so I guessed using 1/4, and went on the heavy side. Thanks for sharing.
