Shrimp Avocado Pasta Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2007
We just didn't like it. The only substitution I made was exchanging chives for green onions (not a big deal). It was too mayonaissey (sp?), and the flavor wasn't pleasing to us.

Chicken Breasts Pierre

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2007
A good, quick, easy meal. We liked the unique sweet, tangy flavor, and I liked how this meal doesn't cost a lot if you already have the spices on hand. We will make this again.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2007
These weren't our favorite. The husband and I thought they were too sweet in a strange way. Still stickin' w/ Toll House. :)

Super Al's Cocktail Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2007
Great flavor, and I will not buy the grocery store kind again. However, I used "fresh prepared horseradish" (the kind in the jar that you get refridgerated section) instead of fresh grated. I think that 2 tablespoons of the kind I used is too much: 1 would be enough. That's the only change I would make to make this perfect! Thanks Al! :)

Absolutely the Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2007
Good but too floury for our tastes...Nothing beats the original Toll House recipe (in my opinion). But, if you want something new, try this one. A lot of people seem to like it.

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2007
If you're looking for a different meatloaf recipe, try this one. It's original in flavor. I added sauted bacon pieces to the mix to "kick it up a notch" and incorporate another element of flavor that paired well with the brown sugar. This also tasted *wonderful* the next day for lunch. I did make a little more of the sauce then what's called for and put it on top of the loaf the last 10-15 minutes of baking. To the sauce, I added worchestershire sauce, dijon mustard, and garlic powder. p.s. If you don't like your meat sweet, then don't try this one. Or don't try this and rate it poorly. It is "brown sugar" meatloaf. If this is you, try the Rempel meatloaf (also on this website.)

Traditional Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2007
A good, basic mashed potato recipe. Yields excellent texture and is a good base recipe to add your favorite flavors (i.e. garlic, more pepper, sour cream).

Burgundy Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2007
This was so easy, flavorful, & hearty. It's presentation and flavor are good enough for a dinner party, but it's quick & easy enough for a weeknight meal. My thoughts: the celery isn't necessary, add minced garlic, serve with a fresh green salad & French bread (to soak up that awesome sauce), & MAKE SURE YOU USE A GOOD RED WINE (one that you'd drink).

Pan Fried Halibut Steak with Light Green Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2007
I used orange roughy instead of halibut since halibut is out of season. The pan-friend roughy was awesome, but we (my husband and I) did not care for the sauce much. I'd rather eat the fish plain (seasoned w/ Old Bay) or with roumalade (sp?) sauce.

Festive Bean Spread

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2007
I liked this a lot, and so did my guests. It was the only appetizer that was all gone at the end of the night. I think it's a simplier take on the 7-layer taco dip, which is also really, really great.

Serious Herb Cheese Spread

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2007
Everyone loved this fresh take on a cheeseball. I served it w/ large Wheat Thins and used less dill and more worchestershire. About half was eaten at my Christmas party, so I remolded it *blush* and served it again at my family get together a few days later. It was even better the 2nd time.

Orange Crunch Cake

Pretty good...Make sure you wait until the cake is mostly cooled before adding the glaze. I added in dried cranberries, too.

Slow Cooker Ham

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2007
This ham turned out really great, but I had the same problem as others: The ham bone kept the lid from going all the way on. I have the largest Crock-Pot on the market, so I'm not sure how others managed to get their 8 pound, bone-in picnic ham all the way in. No worries though...I just used foil to "seal" the edges, and all was well. I also added pineapple like others suggested. I don't think it needed it, but it was a nice addition.

This was a good punch for a crowd: inexpensive, tasteful, & easily modified...I added frozen raspberries & an extra bottle of champagne as well.
