Vegan Red Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2007
I'd give this recipe a 3 as written and a 5 with my changes. I used 3 cups of chicken stock in place of the 2 cups of water, as I found it to be too thickonce cooked. I also used about 3/4 can of coconut milk, 1/2 tsp cumin, 1/8 tsp of cayenne and 1/8 cup of fish sauce in addition to the other ingredients. I didn't have any squash on hand, so I used sweet potatoe instead, which I prefer anyway. In the end this turned out perfectly. My 8 yo dd asked for seconds and dh requested that we serve it at our next dinner party. I'd call it a hit!!

Adrienne's Tom Ka Gai

Delicious!!! My dh who usually doesn't appreciate my love of thai food, raved about this soup. He had two bowls full, and made sure I kept this recipe. I followed the recipe exactly, adding all the fish sauce, and it was perfect.

Tofu Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2007
Sorry, the positive reviews spurred me on, but in the end tofu's texture let me down again. No matter how hard I try, I just can't handle tofu. The salad looked pretty though, and the dressing was a nice flavour, so in the end it wasn't a complete loss.

Green Bean Salad with Feta

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2007
Very good! I'd give this five stars, but I changed a few things in the recipe. I omitted the fennel seeds and added pine nuts, and instead of using orange juice I melted some orange juice concentrate from the can. It was a very yummy salad, and my 8 yo dd declared it one of her new favorites. Thanks!!

Fish and Things Teriyaki Marinade

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2007
Thanks for this handy recipe!! I used a pancake syrup that was about 15% maple syrup in place of the honey. It turned out fantastic!! I've made larger batches and started using it as stirfry sauce. It is delicious, and the whole family really likes it. Thanks!

Mediterranean Turkey Pita Fold

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2007
This was nice for a quick and healthy supper. I added garlic and onion powder to the meat, along with a few dashes of McCormicks greek seasoning to punch up the flavour. I wasn't sure if the dressing would be good or not, and was pleasantly surprised by it. The only other thing I added when garnishing was some red onion. Even my children enjoyed these. Thanks!

Grilled Salmon Kyoto

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2007
It's high time I write a review for this recipe, because it's become our favorite way to eat salmon. I don't make any changes, and it turns out scrumptious every time. I especially love the fact that it doesn't have sugar in the marinade, and for those of us who are watching our carbs, that's a big bonus!!

Gkai Kamin

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2007
I've used this recipe several times now with some slight variations with what I had on hand. I used ground lemon grass in a tube, and I used 2 TBSP of dried ground tumeric. I put all the marinade ingredients in a ziploc bag and used a mallet to crush it all together. I then scooped the paste out and rubbed it all over the chicken, put the chicken back in the bag and marinated for several hours. It is a DELICIOUS way to prepare chicken, and has become one of our favorites.

Crispy Orange Beef

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2007
I followed the advice of other reviewers and cut back on the sugar, and I'm gald I did, because it would definately have been too sweet. If I make this again, I'll also eliminate the orange zest. The orange juice gives this all the orange flavour it needs.

Brazilian Chicken with Coconut Milk

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2007
The key to the bland sauce is SALT. It most certainly needs it to bring out all the flavours. I also cut back on the cayenne, as I was serving this to my kids. I only used a 1/4 tsp. I served this with diced and roasted sweet potatoes. The combination was outstanding, with some of the sauce drizzled over the potatoes. I had the leftovers for lunch today...and it was even better. This will be going into my recipe box for sure.

Crispy and Creamy Doughnuts

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2006
I live in Canada and am not familiar with the taste of the famous KK doughnut...nevertheless this recipe is AMAZING!!! I used my bread machine to make the dough, and it turned out perfectly. I did not experience ANY of the problems that seem to persist in other reviews. The only change I made in the glaze was in replacing some of the water with extra vanilla. These are high quality...I only wish my camera was working so I could take a picture:)

Dash's Donair

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2006
As a born and bred Maritimer, I'm most impressed!!! This worked perfectly without any changes. For those having problems with the sauce, try adding the vinegar stiring only once or twice then letting it sit for a few minutes. I found the sauce thickened perfectly doing it this way. My kitchen smelled like the best donair shop in Halifax last night...thanks Dash!!!
