About this Cook
As much as I love cooking for a crowd, I'm usually cooking for one. I dislike most processed foods, so even though it's just me I tend to cook for both lunch and dinner most days.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking something new - I try new recipes a few times a week. Currently I'm loving making my own soups. They just taste so much better than the store brought soups.
My favorite family cooking traditions
For Thanksgiving and Christmas we always have liver paste even though only three of us like it. Before my mother died she made it every holiday. Now I'm carrying on the tradition.
My cooking triumphs
I make a mean cheese ball that always goes over well. My liver paste isn't bad either.
My cooking tragedies
I've had many (fortunately most were made for one), but my the most talked about one was as a new bride over 40 years ago when I tried to make beef kidney. Even more than 40 years after the fact and more than 30 years after our divorce when I get together with my former husband we still laugh about those kidneys. Because we were so broke we managed to eat the mess but the apartment stunk to high heaven for days.

Wilted Spinach Salad
Just what I was looking for today. I left out the boiled egg, and added mushrooms and toasted walnuts. Made the dressing as suggested except for sauteing a bit of Vidala onion in the bacon grease. Looking forward to making this often.

Chef John's White Gazpacho
I made this using the suggested ingredients. It's very tasty. I don't have a blender so had to use what I have (a mini chopper) which made it quite fussy since I had to blend many batches. There was also a lot of "stuff" when I strained the gazpacho - probably because of not having a good blender. Next time I'll probably leave the bread out or cut way back on it. And will probably not strain it. Definitely worth making again.

Raspberry Sour Cream Pie
I made this for a small group and everyone loved it. I did make just one pie with the filling prepared as directed. Definitely will make it again.
