About this Cook
Recently retired so I cook every day and am disappointed when we have leftovers that need eating. Even then I generally mess with or add to them. We live out in the country so I try to stay stocked up and grow my own veggies and herbs. I use recipes for inspiration and then cook without closely following them.
My favorite things to cook
I love to grill and smoke. I love to saute' and stir fry veggies. I love soups and stews and beans. I love to cook from scratch or as close to it as I can.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother taught me to cook when I was a child and we cooked together for many years. I'm one of those cooks who can go into the kitchen that "has nothing to eat" in it and make a decent meal.
My cooking triumphs
I developed and bottled a "wet rub" in a little downtown storefront in Nacogdoches Texas for 3 years till we ran out of money. We called it Grillin'Mud.

Balsamic Roasted Pork Loin
This was a great Sunday lunch! I did a Beef Loin instead and cut the balsamic with a little stale coffee. Turned out great!

Frijoles de Olla
Simple and versatile! You can do anything with these beans, or nothing. I like a little more complexity to mine and added onion and peppers but sometimes, simple is indeed better! Lard Rules!

Chicken and Bok Choy Soup
Very nice recipe. I added some Sesame Oil, Ginger, and Soy Sauce and got a very definite Chinese version.
