About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I will try cooking and eating just about anything. Some of the really storage stuff that I have tried includes: cow brain, rattlesnake and alligator. I even ate dirt that someone included in a vegetarian shepherds pie once!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving Day is almost always an event. One year I even grew my own pumpkins for the pie. Then there is Christmas, Easter, Fourth of July, Birthdays, etc., etc., etc....
My cooking triumphs
Cooking for 2 or cooking for 200. If it hits the table while still hot and people like it then it is a triumph. I think my highest triumph was cooking a four course meal in three Dutch ovens in less than three hours and placing second against a team of pro cooks. I am not a pro.
My cooking tragedies
The first thing that I cooked, I burned. I was two years old and my mom was cooking, I put my blanket into the toaster and turned it on. Rather than scold me and chase me out of the kitchen, my mom sat me on the counter and described to me everything that she was doing. This happened for every meal and that is how I learned to cook.

Ranch Dressing II
This is a keeper! The seasonings are just the right proportions, no overpowering garlic flavor. I used the suggestion to mix 1/2 cup each of mayo, sour cream and buttermilk.

Scrumptious Strawberry Shortcake
This was good but not what I remember having when I was younger. I think the shortcake was sweeter. I let the strawberries sit with the sugar too long. Don't add the sugar until a few minutes before serving.

Grammy Faith's Mustard Sauce
This is a sweet/sour sauce with a very mild mustard flavor. It was OK but not what I was expecting. The next time I will cut the vinegar to 1/4 cup, the sugar to 2 or 3 Tablespoons and increase the mustard to at least 3 Tablespoons. I prefer a stronger mustard flavor.
