Just an ordinary gal who doesn't mind change and helping as many people as I can. I was raised in a cooking family and have many fond memories centered around cooking and the dinner table. One grandmother had her own catering business and another owned a boarding house; both passed along family recipes and cooking secrets that I love to use as inspiration for creating my own recipes.
My favorite things to cook
Being a Texan born and raised, I love to cook anything grilled or smoked from hamburgers to ribs and briskets as well as creating new chicken recipes. I love creating different soups, salads and sandwiches.
Texas cuisine and Asian dishes. Quiches.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Big family gatherings in a semi crowded kitchen and patio where everyone is assigned a dish to prepare, where tasting, talking and laughter are the stars.
My cooking triumphs
My first ribs. I have created several salads and soups that are big hits and are often requested as well as a homemade salsa that I sell at Christmastime. I grow my own peppers and either roast or dry them and then sneak them into dishes to add a special flare and make a big splash with tasters.
My cooking tragedies
As a person who likes to experiment with different variations on a recipe, I have created dishes that have failed. I have burned more than one dish. The first cake that I ever made ended up being called an earthquake cake because it fell apart( I was 8). I am still not much of a baker, (except cookies), and so I have not developed that skill effectively.
