Was very active in dog training and SPCA Humane Education until our move from the big city to a little village. I'm semi-retired from our pet sevice business. Other than teaching the occasional dog obedience course, solving people's pet problems, writing a pet advice newspaper column, boarding, grooming and dog rescue, not much else for me to do here. Just enjoy the simplicity of the village - no rush hour here. Nana also fills the extra hours with baking for fundraisers enjoying friends, grandchildren and our 5 dogs (2 Bedlington Terriers, a Papillon, a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog and a Gold River Special).
My favorite things to cook
Steamed cakes and breads. Takes longer but well worth it. It all started when I was on my own with 4 kids, as my husband worked away from home. Got too busy, being a chauffeur, to spend much time in the kitchen. Then I discovered the slow cooker. Prep a main dish the night before, and cook it the next day. Sweet! At that time I had one little overworked slow cooker. Now I have 5, in assorted sizes. Best purchase?-- the cake and bread pan insert from Rival. My fav recipe to cook? - Steamed German Chocolate Cake. My fav things to cook? -- something different that I know will bring a smile to my Guinea Pig -my husband.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Not a slow cooker recipe - Christmas Morning Wife Saver with a cinnamon bun on the side and a dish of cut up fruit. The "Birthday Boy/Girl" gets their fav homemade meal.
My cooking triumphs
Our 4 buns in the oven - they all turned out great but the husband had to help me on that project.
My cooking tragedies
I forget! Got over them! Moved on!
