Ground Beef and Cabbage

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2013
I'm a fan of cabbage which most seem to not like. However, I was NOT a fan of this recipe. Very bland and tasteless. Even with additional seasoning, I still did not care for it. The ground beef did nothing for the recipe. I'll stick to my link sausage, red potatoes, and cabbage recipe (with seasoning of course).

Uglies

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2013
These are a staple on the dinner rotation at my house. I've made them many times, and they are always a hit with my kids and husband. Very easy and quick! I do not use the roll out dough method...why spend the time and have the extra mess. I just spray the muffin pan and make a well pressing the dough up the sides. I also like to add a little cheddar cheese to the meat mixture prior to spooning it in the dough cups. These really are easy to adapt to your personal taste. I prefer the barbecue sauce but can see how other sauces or seasonings would be great as well.

Italian Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2013
I have made this recipe many times and love it. This recipe really is great all by itself without any changes, but I like to make just a couple modifications to make it more kid friendly. I do add (already cooked) bow tie pasta and sprinkle the filled bowls with Parmesan so it is more appealing for my kids. With the addition of the pasta, I add a few more ounces of beef broth. Even though I cook the pasta prior to adding it to the soup, I'm sure it still sucks up some of the broth. Also, I prefer pinto beans in general over Northern beans, so I do substitute those.

Toffee Bar Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2013
This recipe is pretty good but could be better. I really feel as though there is too much milk which ultimately makes the coffee cake fall apart. I liked the use of toffee and peanuts on the top, but I wouldn't include as much flour in that top crumb mixture. The flour kind of made the topping underwhelming and slightly bland. I would expect a little more sweetness from a coffee cake crumb topping.

Anna's Amazing Easy Pleasy Meatballs over Buttered Noodles

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2013
Great family recipe! My 7 & 9 year old ask for it all the time. I have never made the full recipe for my family of 4...always just cut everything in half and there are still leftovers. I can see as my active boys get older that they will eat the full recipe though. When I haven't had the opportunity to use the slow cooker in time, I have made the exact same recipe on the cooktop in a Dutch oven cooking the meatballs in the sauce for 25-30 minutes. It came out just the same...great!
