Spaghetti Squash Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2014
This has no flavor whatsoever. Would probably be good if you used bechmel or alfredo sauce instead of the sour cream and cheese.

Mom's Apple Pie I

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2008
This pie was way too tart for our tastes. Other than that the flavor was good and the whiskey was a nice addition. In the future I will not use tart apples or will add more sugar.

Mexican Rice II

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2008
I happened to have all the items on hand for this recipe and decided to try it. I was pleasantly surprised! This is even better (more flavorful) than many mexican restaurants here in Texas. Very savory, not too spicy. Also quick and easy!

German Red Cabbage

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2008
This was really good. Just the right amount of spice. Tastes just like you'd get in a good German restaurant. My husband is from Germany and he enjoyed it too. (needs just a bit of salt for our tastes but that can be put on after cooking) Just be sure to use a large enough pot, cabbage seems to expand when you slice it up!

Texas Sheet Cake I

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2008
Wonderful! A woman I used to work with brought this in for pot lucks and got me hooked. I lost the recipe and she doesn't work with me anymore, I was so glad to find it here! I am not a fan of chocolate box cake but this cake is divine. Moist, full of frosting, nice light cocoa flavor - a winner!

Brown Sugar Smokies

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2008
I made these on Super Bowl Sunday (I know the review is a bit late, lol) and they were a hit! Such a simple recipe but really great flavor - sweet, smoky, meaty. I cooked the second batch a bit longer than recommended to really brown the bacon and cook the sugar. Good stuff!

Dill Pickle Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2008
This is really good! It sounds weird but you've got to try it. Not too pickle-y, just warm comforting soup with a nice flavor.

These are sooooo good, way better than anything you get in a restaurant or frozen etc. Perfect served with sour cream....none left after our super bowl party.

Soda Cracker Chocolate Candy

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2008
The caramel for these is AMAZING, I will definitely use this recipe again and possibly just the caramel for other recipes. I hadn't heard of this before so I was a bit suspicious but I love sweet and salty together so I gave them a try. I'm glad I did - wonderful chewy crunchy buttery treat.

Meaty Thick Man Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2008
EXCELLENT chili recipe. I added a little extra water to make it the consistency I like and added chili powder to taste - not what the recipe calls for. Great meaty chili, I don't like beans much so this was perfect. This does make a lot so prepare to freeze some for later lunches :)

Oven Baked BBQ Ribs

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2008
These are really good - definitely a keeper. We wanted something different from turkey so we made these for Thanksgiving - lol. They were excellent, wonderful flavor and falling off the bone. I covered them with foil for the first hour which I think is a must as near the end some of the sauce started to char. A little char is good, but I think had I not covered them it might have been too much. Also I only basted every half hour as this is what I would normally do for a turkey. Great recipe!

Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2008
These were OK, but honestly they reminded me of pancakes you make with Bisquick. They were very thick and cakey. I prefer light spongy pancakes so I won't be making this again.

White Cheese Chicken Lasagna

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2008
This recipe turned out excellent, I will definitely be making it again. My husband thought it was missing something but he is a fan of standard red sauce lasagna and I am not. Very rich and creamy, great flavor. I used ground turkey instead of chicken and fresh spinach instead of frozen, everything else I did the same. This is a keeper!

Sugar Peanuts

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2007
These do take awhile to cook but they are good. You'll know it is time to take them off the stovetop when the sugar suddenly crystalizes and is no longer liquid. I think I will add some salt next time because just the sugar makes them a bit plain. Great base recipe though. I think I might try them next time with pecans and add cinnamon!

Cajun Boiled Peanuts

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2007
I lived in Jacksonville Florida for a month years ago and wanted to duplicate the wonderful spicy boiled peanuts sold roadside there. This recipe isn't it. I got a Zatarain's crab boil package and it tasted more like dill than spicy. Plus they need some salt added, they were very plain. This was a waste of 5lbs of peanuts!

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2007
This bread was too sweet and didn't rise properly. Very dense....it was OK but I'll stick with potato bread in my bread maker.

Mock Peanut Brittle

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2007
My grandma used to make this and it is excellent. Thanks for giving me a slice of my childhood back. It doesn't taste anything like peanut brittle to me, but it is a wonderful treat.

Honey Whole Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2007
This bread is OK but I was hoping it would be a bit sweeter since it is called "Honey Bread." Was more like a standard dense whole wheat bread. This recipe is good if you like normal whole wheat but look elsewhere for honey wheat.

Crusty Potato Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2007
My bread maker had a hard time with this dough as reported by other reviewers. It was squeaking and laboring....but it made it through and the result was incredible. Perfect bread...crusty and chewy with just the right amount of air. Will make this one again and again.
