Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2012
The texture is good, but it really lacked flavor. Even after adding 1tsp vanilla there was a flour aftertaste. I would use butter, add more sugar, and increase vanilla next time.

Wedding Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2012
I was not impressed with the cake texture from this recipe. The cake did not rise much, and it was very dense, as others have said. The flavor is good, which is why I gave 3 stars. I will not make this recipe again.

Soft Chocolate Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2012
These are great! They taste like hot cocoa in a cookie. I ran out of butter so used crisco, but otherwise followed recipe. Next time I might put a marshmallow frosting on top or sandwiched between two cookies.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2011
Eh...not great. I didn't really like the consistency of the cookies and they seemed greasy. They were chewy, but not "fat" like I was hoping. Okay recipe, but not a favorite.

Bourbon Whiskey BBQ Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2011
Yum Yum Yum! This sauce rocks! I pureed the onion and garlic with a bit of the whiskey before cooking it, which made no chunks and I didn't have to strain it. Make sure to let it sit for a couple days. The flavor is so much better! Thanks!

Cheesy Ham and Hash Brown Casserole

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2011
I made this recipe just as written and my family really liked it! Plus it was nice to find a recipe that was not full of cooked veggies, which my hubby hates. It was not too salty like others have said. Next time I will add some garlic powder, but that is all. Can't wait to take this to a big family reunion this summer. Thanks!

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2011
I was so disappointed by this recipe! My muffins didn't rise in the middle because of the butter overkill in the topping. I was concerned after I mixed it together, but put it on anyways. It is gross to take a muffin out of the oven and have a pool of grease on top of it. The only reason I gave this two stars is that the flavors are good. I just think that there is something wrong with the topping. What a waste of fresh picked summer blueberries.

Crunchy Peanut Butter Balls

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2011
Very good, but my family likes creamy peanut butter balls better. The peanut butter flavor was not as strong as we usually like.

Grilled Flat Iron Steak with Blue Cheese-Chive Butter

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2011
This butter is amazing! Thank goodness I doubled it! I used the marinade on thick sirloin steaks, since my husband (a meat cutter) can't stand flat iron steaks. Steaks were tender, butter was amazing, and our guests left begging for the recipe. Thanks!

Homestyle Potato Chips

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2011
So easy, yet so good! I used one large baking potato, which I peeled into potato ribbons, soaked cold for about 10 minutes, dried, then fried in about 1 inch of oil. I found that I did need to salt them as they came out for added flavor, and I can't wait to try other seasonings. This was the perfect amount for 2-4 people as a side dish...a little less than you would get in a gourmet/regular size chip bag. Sweet potatoes are coming next! Thanks!

Old Settlers' Baked Beans

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2011
These beans completely outshine anything that I have had before. Everyone loved them, especially my kids. Like others, I precooked the bacon and I left out the ground beef to make it more of a side dish. I cooked them in a crock pot. The only reason I gave a 4 instead of a 5 was that I didn't like the pork and beans. I first started these cooking without the pork and beans, since I didn't have any. The flavor was awesome! But I wanted to follow the recipe, so I got a can and added it. I think it really took away from the amazing flavor the beans had before, so next time I will leave them out. But this will be a summertime staple, for sure! **Update: I tried these in the oven, and they were very dry and hard. The flavor was good, but texture was chewy. I will crock pot from now on!

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2011
Overall this is an excellent recipe! The flavors are subtle and home-y, perfect for winter. I poached the chicken mixture in chicken stock as others did, then strained it and used it to make the gravy. I found the amount of sauce was perfect, even though I added a few potatoes. After mixing everything together and tasting it, I decided to add 1 tsp of poultry seasoning and 1/4 c sour cream for a little more flavor. The end result totally blew away the pot pies that I have made in the past. This will be a regular Sunday dinner from now on!

Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2011
I made 6 jumbo muffins out of this recipe and it turned out great. I used 1 cup of milk, and 3/4 cup semisweet and bittersweet chocolate cut in small pieces. Reduced temp to 375 degrees and cooked them for about 22 minutes. Yum! I loved them, kids loved them, and I will make them again for sure!
