Very good banana bread. We made some just before going on vacation and put it in the freezer, when we got home my daughter had some frozen and said it tasted even better frozen.

Warm Maple, Ham and Apple Coffeecake

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2006
This was ok. The biscuits in the middle of the pan were doughy (baked it for more than 45 minutes) and they didn't seem to add anything. If I make this again I'll leave them out and serve them on the side. The ham, apple and maple flavors were very good together. I had some leftovers and added cheese to it, it was good that way too. I didn't have apple pie spice so I substituted it with cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice.

Creamy Banana Bread

Reviewed: May 9, 2006
very tasty. We like the cinnamon layer in the middle, it has a nice banana flavor. I read some posts that said there wasn't much banana flavor, maybe it was the bananas used, I use the black bananas and they have a much stronger flavor. I didn't add nuts as I wanted to give this to friends and I don't know if they have allergies. I also made it in 6 mini loaf pans.

Grilled Soy-Sesame Asparagus

My family really liked this, two of my children were fighting over who got the last spears. The tips burn easily but it was still very good.

Charleston Breakfast Casserole

Reviewed: May 27, 2006
My whole family liked this. When we get bagged salad we don't always use the croutons that come with them so I had 7 packages of croutons from the salad. Two packages of the croutons was just under 1 cup, I used all 7 packages that I had and it was enough. I also used some cheese I had in the fridge and wanted to use up, and a whole package of bacon. Like another reviewer said, "You can't have too much bacon."

Grandma's Secret Pie Crust

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2006
The pastry came out nice and flaky. I prefer to add the liquid a little at a time so I mixed in the egg and vinegar before adding the water. I thought it had enough liquid and didn't add any water, I should have as it didn't roll out very well. I will make it again because I liked the texture and flavor. This is also the same recipe as No Fail pie crust I.

This sauce was great, we will be keeping this recipe around to use again, thanks for sharing it. My 16-yo son made it for Thanksgiving and everyone liked it. We made half the reicpe and used 2 cinnamon sticks.

Butternut Pie Crust

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2006
This crust rolled out very nice, I got it very thin. Looked pretty, nice orange/yellow color. Had a nice flavor. Was rather tough after baking. Most people in my family did not eat the crust. Probably won't make this one again.

Oil Pie Crust

Didn't much care for this one. It seemed to asorb the filling and blend into the pie. Had a bit of trouble getting it to roll out properly.

Asparagus Quiche

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2006
This was very good. I only had 1 cup half-and-half so used 1/2 cup 2% milk. I made this in my ceramic pie pan (I'm not sure of the size but bigger than 8") and all of the ingredients fit.

Amish Friendship Bread II

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2007
A pretty good bread. Got a starter from a neighbor recently and this is close to the recipe that came with it. My family really liked it. I made one with chocolate pudding and one with vanilla pudding. I added raisins to one of the vanilla and dried cherries to one of the chocolate loaves. I didn't think there was much chocolate flavor using the chocolate pudding. I had some black bananas and wondered if I could use the starter for banana bread. My recipe called for 1 cup of oil so I used 1/2 cup oil, 3 or 4 bananas and no pudding, and added 1/2 tea. nutmeg. The banana flavor came through well but not the spices. If I do that again I will add a bit more nutmeg.

Sweet Kielbasa

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2007
This was just ok. I used pineapple chunks in unsweetened juice (I don't buy anything with heavy syrup), and just one pound of sausage. It cooked about 1 1/2 hours before the sauce started to thicken. I was a bit put off by the grease that we could see on the top. The sauce didn't seem to add anything to the flavor of the meat. Probably will not make this again.

Autumn Cheesecake

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2007
My kids wanted to make cheesecake and chose this recipe. They followed most of the suggestions. It came out great, it was creamy and not too dense. They partially cooked the apples in the microwave as suggested but mixed some cinnamon and sugar with the liquid and used it as a sauce. The crust was just the right amount, not too thick or thin. They doubled the ingredients for the cheesecake because my smallest springform pan is 10". We will probably be making this one again.

Very Berry Cheesecake

Reviewed: May 1, 2007
This was very good. One person that ate it said he didn't like cheesecake but that it was very good. The smallest springform pan I have is 10" so I doubled the ingredients and it filled the pan very well, it had to cook a bit longer. I was just using raspberries and didn't have any fresh ones so I thawed a bag of frozen ones and let them drain for about a day (used the juice and another bag of frozen raspberries to make a raspberry sauce that was drizzled over when served) then added them in the center of the cheesecake. They didn't hold up too well but still had a good flavor in the middle. I don't have a food processor and was running the cottage cheese through my blender. It was too thick and wouldn't blend well so I added the orange juice (I don't use alcohol in cooking) to the cottage cheese and it blended up very smooth.

Low Sugar Strawberry Rhubarb Crunch

very good. I didn't measure the honey just squeezed it in with the rhubarb and strawberries. I did add 2 tablespoons of cornstarch as others mentioned, it turned out well.

Strawberry Rhubarb Coffee Cake

Reviewed: May 14, 2007
Very good. The cake was very moist and the filling just the right amount. Next time I will probably reduce the amount of cornstarch a bit as I could taste it in the filling. I used fresh strawberries and probably used a bit more than 10 ounces because we could taste a lot more strawberries than rhubarb. I may add some cinnamon to the topping next time too.
