Baked Zucchini de Provence

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2011
This was terribly disappointing. All you can taste are the herbes. A teaspoon would have been plenty.

Mushroom Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2010
This was WONDERFUL! I followed the recipe as written, except to add 3 cloves of minced garlic. For the reviewer who thought the bacon would be raw - the bacon cooks with the saute and finishes in the oven. For the reviewers who found it runny, you didn't let it cook down enough. When the cheese is added it firms up beautifully. It was easy and delicious. Thank you, and your mum Gatoula. This will make a regular appearance on our dinner table.

Kevin's Sea Shells

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2010
Delicious! Followed the recipe, but used 1 lb. shrimp. It made 12, which was plenty for us. The sauce was great. I'm sure I'll be using it for other fish dishes. Thanks, Kevin.

Meatball and Olive Stew (Albondigas Verdes)

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2009
Based on the previous review I made some revisions. To the meatballs I added 1/4 tsp. cayenne, 1/2 tsp. cumin, 1/2 tsp. chili powder, garlic powder, additional onion and salt. I used 1 lb. tomatillas, 3 cloves of garlic, 1 c. cilantro, plus more for topping the bowls at the end. I used a 5.75 oz. jar of olives, and the cup of water from the tomatilla/jalapeno pot water, additional onion, and 1 c. of beef broth instead of all water. Don't forget to salt the broth. A little different, and quite tasty. Serve with salad and margaritas.

Mushroom Sauce Baked Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2009
I also doctored it a little. Sauteed garlic and mushrooms with the onion, and deglazed with white wine. I skipped the potatoes - we're watching carbs. A really good recipe. Thanks JHIGENB.

Lime Chicken with Cilantro Cream Sauce and Roasted Zucchini

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2009
I used shrimp instead of chicken, and sauteed them with mushrooms. The sauce is WONDERFUL! I used reduced fat half and half to lower the calorie count, and served over orzo. By the way, vee833, you can't substitute lemon for lime and expect it to taste the way it's supposed to. Thanks, Sandy. It's a new favorite at our house.

Mexican Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2009
I have been making this for several years, and my family always enjoys it. A few minor modifications per other reviews. Saute onion with the beef; add 1/2 pkg. taco seasoning; use 4 cheese Mexican mix and divide between the layers; top with chopped green chilies and sliced black olives. ALWAYS use corn tortillas. Serve sliced jalapenos on the side. Thanks, Beverly for a really good recipe that can easily be adapted to suit individual tastes.

Cream of Asparagus Soup I

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2007
I was disappointed in this recipe. The rave reviews led me to expect better. It should be named cream of celery soup, as that is the predominant flavor. If I made it again I would use only 1 stalk... or try one of the many other recipes on this site. Sorry.

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2007
My family gobbled these up! The crunchy top makes them different from the usual banana muffin. I think my family lets bananas go past the good eating stage so I will make these to use them up. Thanks.

Cream of Spinach Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2006
Good, but not great. I followed other cooks' suggestions: sauteed onion and garlic, used broth, fresh spinach and half and half; added fresh basil, red pepper and parmesan. I still feel it needs something to move into the 5 star category.

Peruvian Cilantro Rice

Great ingredients, disappointing finish. I used fresh carrots and broccoli. Cumin taste overwhelming, and dish was rather dry.

This is a great change for chicken. My family really loves this one. It's got a nice kick that you can turn up or down. Make it every few weeks. Thanks C. Perez.

Sauerbraten IV

Made this this week, and we loved it. My only addition was a couple of lemon slices - I remember my grandmother always adding lemon to the marinade. It's well worth the time involved. Thanks Jean.

This is a wonderful recipe. You do need to reverse the amounts of soy/vinegar. A lovely addition to my recipe box. Thanks CAE.

Three Cheese Garlic Scalloped Potatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2006
Made this with ham steak and baked asparagus with balsamic butter sauce (from this site), and they disappeared like magic. I used gruyere instead of provolone, 6 cloves of garlic, half and half and some cayenne to spice it up a bit.

This is a great recipe! I make it as is except to use all red grape tomatoesm (more economical), and a bit more garlic. Last time I made it I used fresh basil. Terrific!! Thanks Lovecooking.

Tomato, Basil, and Feta Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2005
This was a great recipe. I used regular tomatoes, red onion instead of green, and added black olives. Next time I will have to double the recipe, because it disappeared so quickly. Thanks VancGirl2!
