Slow Cooker Lentils and Sausage

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2012
Made this today and it's very flavorful. I thought two lbs. of sausage a bit much, and just used one. So easy to put together...I actually, almost literally, threw it together right before I ran out the door for work this afternoon. Didn't have celery and no time to cut up carrot so it went without; I added a smidgen of celery seed and garlic powder. Will definitely make again! Thanks, sorsha24!

Roasted Vegetables

To the reviewer who had problems using dried herbs, dried are generally stronger than fresh so you will benefit from using less than called for when using dried. Otherwise...This recipe looks delicious!! We will definitely be trying it soon.

Mustard Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2011
This is a surefire winner! It couldn't be easier. I used honey mustard instead of plain, and minced the dried onion rings as fine as I could for generously covering the chicken. It was just so good! I also added paprika, garlic powder and salt to one side of the chicken before rolling in mustard and onion rings, at the suggestion of other reviewers. The whole family loved it. This will become a part of our regular menu from now on. Thanks, Juliet!

Cheesy Ham and Hash Brown Casserole

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2011
This is fantastic. We had it for the first time last night, and mdh and daughter raved over it. I thought so much parmesan cheese would be a bit much, but it gives it a nice kick. I've used the same recipe, minus ham and parmesan, since the 70s, and that makes an unbeatable side dish. We usually bring it out for holiday cooking; no one tires of it. So happy to see this version with the ham and parmy added. Thanks for the recipe! Going into my permanent files. :0) *FWIW, it seemed a bit short on ham; my particular (generous) serving was almost completely lacking in ham. For the future I am upping the amount to 1 1/2 to 2 cups ham.

Dad's Kentucky Home Fries

Reviewed: May 6, 2011
These are the best fried potatoes you'll ever make. My mom made this recipe when I was a child, and she called them "American Fried Potatoes." The secret is the bacon drippings!!! If you use any other kind of oil, your results will be mediocre at best. I use more onion than this recipe calls for, and more bacon drippings too. I also add garlic powder. I add potatoes to the heated drippings/skillet, cover, cook ten minutes on one side, flip potatoes over and cook another ten minutes. Perfection!

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2011
Huge disappointment. I had read so many stellar reviews I was excited to make this. It is really nothing to write home about. It lacks any real flavor, frankly. A very basic recipe, and the meat was tough to boot, no pun intended. Don't expect a rich, flavorful sauce, but if you are happy with just meat, potatoes and carrots, very lightly seasoned, then this will satisfy you.

Bodacious Broccoli Salad

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2010
This recipe looks fantastic! I look forward to making it. I have made a similar dish, one that I discovered at a church pot-luck. Just mix together fresh broccoli flowerets, sunflower seeds (the more, the better), and honey mustard dressing. Dee-lish!

Italian Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2010
This is so good. I added an extra can of beef broth plus a second can of northern beans. Used frozen chopped spinach and then topped each serving off with dried Parmesan cheese. We're having it again tonight. Only thing I noticed was it takes longer to make than I thought it would, but it's worth the time. This is now a regular meal for us--highly recommend! Update 1/3/11 -- Tonight made it with hot Italian sausage, not mild, and it was so much better with the hot. Before, it was a pleasant soup. Now, outtasight (do people even say that anymore? Mercifully, not often). ;0) Have left out the spinach the last 2 times I've made it; we couldn't really taste it, and don't miss it.
