About this Cook
Retired Family &Consumer Science Teacher 30 year survivor
My favorite things to cook
Baking, especially breads and desserts.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Have been making & gifting Christmas candy to friends for years. My family has favorite foods they request every holiday. I always try new things in addition to their favorites
My cooking triumphs
My greatest achievements have been my Foods &Nutrition students. Watching them succeed in lab, seeing their light of understanding go off in their eyes when they 'get it'.
My cooking tragedies
I luv to experiment with my cooking & baking; make low fat & low cal, etc, so I often whip up tragedies with trial and error. What comes out of these poor tragedies, oh so good!

Chocolate Covered Cherries
This is one of my most requested candies at Christmas. LOVE to soak cherries in coconut rum overnight or add raspberry oil to confectioners sugar as change ups in the recipe.

Ciabatta Bread
Have experience making yeast breads. The texture of this bread gives breakfast casseroles a great texture. Like to toast slices for tapenade.I find using a Pam coated spatula best way to handle/divide batter.Pour onto parchment paper and let rise. I do not dimple and handle carefully, as it tends to deflate if knocked about.

White Texas Sheet Cake
Just baked this, great texture & moisture. Sour cream had expired so I used low fat vanilla yogart & 11/2 t vanilla. Loved the quickness of it and my husband loved the taste. Will make this again. Goin to try substituting some brown sugar in with the butter stage along with confectioners sugar for a caramel frosting.
