About this Cook
My husband and I retired in 2001 and moved from the Portland, Oregon area to Hemet, CA, about half way between Palm Springs and San Diego. We love it here, especially the weather. More sunshine than we ever dreamed of. Portland is beautiful, but we don't miss the rain.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy cooking almost everything, but believe in the KISS theory of keeping it simple...and healthy. I love trying new and interesting recipes and this site provides some of the best recipes ever!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandmother made the best sour cream cookies every Christmas. It was fun to "help" her when I was a child.
My cooking triumphs
My first true triumph was a cheesecake that I made for company. When I took it out of the oven I was sure it was a disaster, but somehow it came together and everyone raved about it.
My cooking tragedies
Macaroni and cheese with leftover turkey. It was so bad I tossed it out.

Meat Pie (Tourtiere)
I've never had Meat Pie (Tourtiere) before, but thought it sounded interesting. Well let me say this was delicious! The only changes I made was to increase the allspice and add a little nutmeg and omit the egg wash and paprika on top. My husband said I can make this again next week it was so good. Thanks for a great recipe, Maggie Rogers. I'll be making this again soon.

Basic Crepes
This was my first time making crepes and I was amazed at how easy this was and at how nice they turned out. I did take the advice of others and mixed the wet ingredients first then added the dry to it while whisking and had smooth batter. I'll be making these whenever I'm in the mood for crepes instead of paying the high price restaurants charge for them. Thanks for a great recipe, JennyC819.

Cajun Chicken Pasta
This was delicious and a good way to change-up chicken breast (our least favorite part of the chicken). I only made small changes due to what I had on hand...I used yellow peppers and added a few broccoli flowerets. Also, I didn't have any cream so I used milk and added some flour to thicken it a little and some butter to help smooth it out and give it back some richness. I'll be making this again soon! Thanks, Tammy, for a very good recipe!!
