Apple Tarte Tatin

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2014
Tasty and easy to make. I didn't have white sugar, but brown sugar. I used store bought pastry and it worked out nicely. Next time I'll try with the white sugar, which I hope will be tastier caramelized that the brown.

Pasta and Garlic

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2014
Quick and tasty. I jazzed it up. I added onions and garlic fried up in the Olive oil. Once the garlic was cooked, before it browns, added a half cup of white wine, salt and pepper. Simmered that for an additional 4 minutes.

Janet's Rich Banana Bread (healthy modifications)

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2014
Moist and delicious recipe. I used this as a foundation for some major modifications though, to be healthier for my diabetic wife. 1. Replaced completely white flour with whole wheat (1C total) 2. Instead of the white sugar I used the brown sugar suralose (splenda). It does have some brown sugar blended in so it's not completely free of sugar. Based on supplier replacement recommendations I only use 1/2 cup of it. 3. I mashed the bananas instead of slicing. 4. I added 1/3 of a cup of unsweeted apple sauce (because I so many people say using all whole wheat flour results in a denser and more dry version). Well this was moist and delicious. My wife is a picky eater and raved about this and gave it 10/10.

Potato Chips

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2014
The chips turn out perfectly nice and crisp in the microwave. Here is some of my experience: 1. I lightly oiled the plate as suggested but that didn't do it. Bits a d pieces stayed behind on my plate. I did wax paper and it was much easier. 2. Straight salt isnt very exciting- I did that once with my first go round. 3. Potatoes to start to colour up and oxidize but I added some lime juice as soon as I saw the colour show up. Well news flash!!!! It also makes the chips very tasty and stops the oxidation so win win! Slapped a small amount of salt and some pepper and lemon pepper in a shaker bag and shook the chips in this when they were done and they were delish. 4. It's fast to do one plate but to just do one whole potato is time consuming and labour intensive. My microwave took about 5 minutes exactly. One normal sized russet sliced thin on a mandolin will likely keep you at the microwave for well over an hour! Since it's 5 minutes per batch you'll be very occupied that whole time. I will still make again because I think this is healthier and I like that I can jazz up and play around with them. Gonna gourmet it up for the next oil spray with white truffle oil and then toss in some pepper!

Turkey Cheeseburger Meatloaf

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2014
Pretty tasty indeed! I did make some substitutions and will be fine tuning it more again: 1. I used the splenda brown sugar mix to reduce calories further (Based on splenda recco for their product I halved how much I added and will reduce more because I thought the topping sauce was still a tad too sweet, maybe add a bit of cider vinegar next time to give a bit more tang to it). 2. I used Low Calorie Tex Mex cheese. 3. I used the precooked low sodium bacon. My partner in crime devoured it in a pinch and insists I make this again in the very near future.

Mom's Red Scalloped Potatoes

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2013
Very tasty. Russets instead, and creamy cheddar cheese soup and cream of celery. I used up a mish mash of cheeses I had around (cheddar, parmesan, mozzarella). I baked a little longer (10 mins) to ensure the potatoes were softened fully.

Corn Casserole III

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2013
Meh. So so. I thought this recipe sounded great, but was sorely disappointe :(. I found the baking temperature wasn't sufficient. It was still liquid and pale after the recommended temperature and time. I then bumped the temperature to what was recommended on the cornbread recipe. Had to cook for twice as long.

Becki's Oven Barbecue Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2013
Tasty and versatile sauce. Easy to make modifications here and there. My last go round I halfed the onion powder and topped up the remainder for it with garlic powder. Also added on some balsamic and black pepper. My wife was sad when all the wings were gone.
