Simple Time Pork Chops

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2014
My mom made these for dinner and my husband has been raving about them ever since, so I made them for us the following weekend. The dish was easy to prepare and the flavor is fantastic. I was a little worried about the amount of salt when I was sprinkling it on top of each chop as it looked like a lot, but they tasted fine. They were wonderfully flavorful and tender. Made the dish exactly as written and wouldn't change a thing! Served with home fries and apple salad.

Chef John's Flour Tortillas

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2014
Made pork chalupas from this site and didn't have tortillas on hand, so my husband and I decided to try making them. These turned out good, and easy to make. We had fun with it. Might try playing around with flavors just to see what we can come up with, but this makes a good tortilla as is. As I was cooking them I kept the finished ones on a plate, with another plate over it, to keep them from drying out.

Famous Chicken Francaise

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2014
My husband said to give this 5 stars, and the flavor was fantastic. I'm going with 4 though for two reasons- After letting simmer for 8 mins the sauce reduced so much that there wasn't any to spoon over the chicken and bed of pasta when serving. Also, I let the coated chicken sit for a while before placing it in the pan so it held beautifully when browning. But when I added the lemon mix to the pan and simmered, the coating didn't hold as well on the bottom of the chicken. Just a couple of tweaks- I added white wine to the lemon mixture; and as I had seen on other recipes I dredged the chicken in the flour first, then the egg, then let it sit for 20 mins. Thank you for sharing this recipe, it was easy and tasty, and we really enjoyed it!

Sriracha Cheese Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2014
Great bread! I don't know which ingredient made it so soft, but I was very pleased with the soft texture. I did add vital wheat gluten, but my bread doesn't usually turn out this soft even when I do that! I threw all the ingredients in my bread machine and set the dough cycle. When it was done I baked in a loaf dish. Boy did the dough rise, and yet it was sturdy enough that it didn't fall. I loved the texture, the flavor of the cheddar and sriracha, everything. Thank you for sharing this recipe.

Super Easy Slow Cooker Chicken Enchilada Meat

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2014
My husband and I loved this recipe. Great filling for enchiladas. I used rotel tomatoes and chilis instead of tomatoes as that is what I had at home. I wanted a extra sauce so I used 3 chicken breasts but kept the other ingredients the same as written. After cooking the chicken in the slow cooker, I rolled it in 10-10 inch tortillas, placed them in a casserole dish, poured the additional sauce over top, covered with foil, and baked at 375 for about 40 mins. Next time though I need to remember to save some of the sauce to the side before shredding the chicken and adding it back to the crockpot. We love cumin, probably my favorite spice, so I enjoyed the flavor and did not find it too overwhelming. Will definitely make again.

Meat-Lover's Slow Cooker Spaghetti Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2013
I liked that although many ingredients were canned or dried, it still tasted fresh! Simple to make, and I followed the recipe, except I didn't have marjoram so I omitted it. Thank you for sharing a simple but tasty recipe, I will make this again!

Stuffed Pepper Soup IV

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2013
My husband asked me to try making stuffed pepper soup so I selected this recipe. We both loved it. It has a lot of flavor and the rice adds nice texture. Made only a few modifications based on what I had at home. Used Italian seasoning in place of the sage and thyme, and mixed some beef broth with the chicken broth. Then I threw in some minced garlic to suit our tastes. As another reviewer suggested, I did not add the rice to the soup; I put a spoonful in the bottom of each bowl then ladled soup over it. A hearty and satisfying soup, and I appreciated the ease of preparation.

Homemade Butter

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2013
Turned out wonderful and my husband was impressed! Rinsed the butter in an ice water bath three times to help remove all buttermilk. I have a vintage wooden butter mold and decided to try it out. Cleaned in lukewarm water then treated the wood with canola oil. Worked well. All in all I'm happy with the results.

Cherry Crunch

Reviewed: May 27, 2013
I took this to a cookout and everyone seemed to like it. I had a can of blueberry pie filling so I made it with that instead of cherry. The flavor of the oat topping was nice. But it seemed a little dry and I think I'll use a little extra butter next time. This is a great recipe to make when short on time and you want to take something nice for a gathering.

Scott Hibb's Amazing Whisky Grilled Baby Back Ribs

Reviewed: May 27, 2013
These ribs were fantastic. I've never made baby backs before so I didn't know what to expect from this method, baking them first, but they were very tender and practically fell off the bone. I had about 3.3 lbs of ribs, but I made the full amount of sauce so we had extra for dipping. Also, for the ground red chile pepper, I used dried peppers from our garden last year that we dried and crushed. So the ribs were pleasantly spicy, not as sweet as I've had with bottled sauce. I had a lot of sauce left over and will try using it on other meats. It's the star of the recipe!

Cinco de Chili Chocolate Cupcakes with Chili Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: May 4, 2013
These were ok, nothing special. If you didn't know what was in them when you tried them, I'm not sure you would think they were anything but chocolate cupcakes. My box of cake mix was 15 oz, so I reduced the water to 1 cup but kept the other items to the amounts written in the recipe, including the spices. The heat was very subtle, barely noticeable. Everyone at our work party tried them out of curiosity, but they weren't a hit. I did like the addition of cinnamon in the cream cheese frosting, and that flavor paired well with the chocolate cupcake.

Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2013
This is a handy recipe to have! I browned a little over a pound of ground beef, and mixed in this entire batch with approx 3/4 cup water. My husband loved it. He said this made the best taco meat he's ever had. Made exactly as written and would not change a thing. I will continue to make this instead of buying packets.

Cinnamon Honey Butter

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2013
Awesome on a warm freshly made english muffin! I am not a huge fan of sweets so I did cut the honey and sugar in half, but kept the cinnamon and butter as directed in the recipe. Everyone in the house was pleased with this treat.

English Muffins

DH and 4 yr old DS were very happy with these. I made smaller muffins and the 3 of us ate 7 of them very quickly. Fantastic when eaten warm with cinnamon honey butter. Yum, a great treat this morning.

Chef John's Twice-Baked Potatoes

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2013
These potatoes were very flavorful with the green onion mixed in. I chose this recipe because I was out of sour cream and this recipe doesn't call for it. And you don't miss it. I did add a little garlic salt for extra flavor, and I used yellow cheddar as I did not have white. I like that the section sliced off the top is used inside the shell. No waste! Will definitely make again.

We like the parboiling technique because it gives the wings a nice flavor. Have made these twice and they turned out great both times.

Creamy Chipotle Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2013
We love spicy food but this was a little more than we cared for. It seemed very hot but missing some flavor. I think less pepper and more garlic would work better for us. I'm sorry, I'm glad I tried it but I'm not sure I would make it again.

Popcorn Seasoning

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2013
Great mix of flavors and I will make again. Sprinkled sparingly on buttered popcorn, and a little goes a long way. Next time though I will cut back on the salts because it was too salty for me. Maybe some garlic powder instead of garlic salt.

Chorizo Queso Dip

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2013
We had made 7 lbs of homemade chorizo and I was looking for recipes to try with it. This one was so good for game day!! I mixed it up a little based on what I had at home. Instead of using all Velveeta I threw in a little monterrey jack. And my dip seemed a little thick so I added a small amount of salsa. Very good recipe and easy to make. Thank you for sharing.
