Famous Japanese Restaurant-Style Salad Dressing

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2009
The taste and smell of raw onion was overpowering. I don't recall any Japanese restaurant using a salad dressing this strong. We ate is just once and didn't use the rest.

Basic Flaky Pie Crust

Perfect pie crust - I use a double recipe for both a top and bottom crust.

Streusel Topped Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2009
This is one of those "perfect" recipes that made it into my personal recipe collection. No need to look for another! Unless you want to find one with lower fat, which is the only drawback to these...

Lemon-Lime Crackle Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2009
Wow, these were terrific! Lemony, tender, lightly chewy, HUGE. The lime seemed unnecessary, so will try it without. Next time I'll make them much smaller than the recipe, maybe dropped by teaspoons instead of tablespoons, for a more normal size cookie.

Penne Pasta with Cannellini Beans and Escarole

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2006
This was ok, for being nonfat and vegan. It needed more greens/vegetables and less pasta.

The Best Vegetarian Chili in the World

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2006
Way too hot. Can't taste anything except "heat." Unless you like your nose and throat burned with the smell of peppers, don't bother. What a waste of expensive ingredients.

Vegetarian Shepherd's Pie II

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2006
This was just ok, the potatoes on top were skimpy, and the filling took too many pots to make. May try it again with more mashed potatoes, and streamlined directions.

Vegan Corn Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2006
These were very tough, dry, and tasteless. I DID use applesauce instead of oil, though, so gave it two stars instead of one.

Raw Hummus

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2006
Really good hummus, tastes like normal cooked hummus. As a matter of fact, after letting the beans steep in hot water for 60 seconds, they went from tasting like fresh peas to normal garbanzo beans. It makes me wonder just how "raw" they are in the final product. I'm sure they're a little better for you than canned garbanzo beans, but probably not by much.

Pretty awful - my family wouldn't touch it, it even smelled bad!

Mock Tuna Salad

Very tasty vegan sandwich filling. Although my daughter's friends felt sorry for her when she carried it to school, she ate it!

Boston Cream Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2006
It was ok, but the filling was very runny and ruined the cake. Tastes good, but very "convenience food" like.

Strawberry Jam

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2006
This strawberry jam looks like the one in Soylent Green. It's so good, the neighborhood girls eat it with a spoon out of the jar!

French Onion Soup With Browned Garlic

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2006
This was just ok. Way too many onions, too much garlic, had to thin it out with quite a lot of water. It was too sweet, missing a "beefy" boullion base I think.

Tabbouleh

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2006
My family wouldn't touch it. Didn't taste anything like tabbouleh we've had in restaurants. Very odd flavor, too grainy tasting.

Hummus III

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2006
Wow, the best hummus I've ever made! I increased the garlic. It was a little dry, I would add water to thin it to desired consistency.

Yam Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2005
This was very good - I didn't have wild rice, so substituted brown rice and added it in at the beginning with all other ingredients. Moderately spicy, depending on the curry powder used.
