Rib Eye Steaks with a Soy and Ginger Marinade

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2011
Followed the recipe except no beer on hand, gave it a splash of sherry instead. Not good. Odd taste, wanted it sweeter.

Vietnamese Sandwich

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2011
Wow,one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten in my life. I followed the recipe mostly, but I already had pork roast in the crockpot, so that is what I used for meat. I did marinate the cucumbers, carrots and onions and cilantro as directed. The baguette was crunchy and fresh. The fresh lime juice cut the richness of the pork and I was in heaven. Thank you so much for something different, will treasure this recipe.

Slow Cooker Oatmeal

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2011
absoutely lovely. Used steel cut oat so I followed advice of others and directions on container and used 4 c water to 1 c oats. Thanks to several of you easy clean up because I used a crock pot liner. It was creamy, but still had a slight chewiness. Cooked to perfection overnight. So nice to wake up and have it be all ready for me.

Lunch Box Hot Hot Dogs

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2011
Great idea. When my son was little I used to put hot tomato soup in his thermos with a hot dog stuck into it. He ate the dog and drank his soup. Try it.

Restaurant-Style Coleslaw I

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2011
The only improvement I can suggest to this slaw is to run the cabbage/slaw mix thru the food processor to grind it up into smaller pieces if your grocery store does not sell it that way (mine does not), makes it that much more delicious and like the chicken restaraunt slaw so many love. Thanks for the recipe. I will make it again and again.

Buttermilk Bread I

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2011
I followed recipe exactly and started my bread machine. It was hopping all over the counter and making a lot of noise. The dough was like cement. I added about 1/4 cup milk and it thinned out and started to knead normally. I left it on the counter in the same spot I always place it when making bread. About 10 minutes later, I heard a tremendous crash. The bread machine had vibrated off the counter to the floor and shattered. Dough, glass, metal and plastic everywhere. It flew into the hallway and two adjacent rooms. Lucky, no damage to my mexican tile floor. Dangerous recipe and expensive too, includes the cost of a new bread machine. Obviously, this recipe needs more liquid or less flour. Good luck if you still dare to try it.!

Orzo Ham Salad

great recipe. I am fairly new to this site. I see recipe group and recipe buzz mentioned often. Can someone tell me what this is. Is it an online group or a neighborhood thing or what? Thanks.

Comforting Chicken

Reviewed: May 12, 2011
Not comforting! Dry and mealy. Did not like the green pepper and the chili powder. Followed directions except I substituted chicken broth for water thinking it would add flavor. Will not make again.

Shrimp Scampi Bake

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2011
Just a recommendation to those that use "cooking wine -- 'DON'T. As per the advice of chefs in the know, "If you won't drink it, don't cook with it!". Just buy a bottle of dry white wine, can be had for less than $10, and see the difference. Even if you are not a wine drinker. You are a cook or you would not be on this site.

Oven Fries

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2011
very good, sugar seems to be the new twist. In re: the confusion about red pepper, please note that red pepper flakes are not the same as cayenne pepper. Cayenne is a find ground red powder. I can understand if one confused the two that red pepper flakes would not be good in this recipe.

Mulligatawny Soup I

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2011
quite good. I did add some chopped butternut squash that I had in the fridge needing to be used up. Tasted finished soup as is and it did seem to lack something. Gave it a few generous glugs of sherry. Voila! Tried it with and without the cream (half and half). Liked it better without. Garnished with cilantro. Will make again. Thanks for a good recipe

Brazilian Cheese Bread (Pao de Queijo)

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2011
Very much like Yoki Bread mix that I buy in the Latin food aisle in the grocery, supposedly a taste of Colombia I think. They are rubbery and very strong cheese flavor, supposed to be that way, made with tapioca starch. Look for it in your store, I live in FL where there is a heavy south american influence.

Bob's Slow Cooker Braciole

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2011
Definitely needs chopped garlic and fresh parsley and also hard boiled chopped eggs (that's right!) mixed in with the breadcrumbs. I like raisins too but many do not. Try the egg, you will be surprised.

Meat-Lover's Slow Cooker Spaghetti Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2011
Sweet and savory often go together. Also, here's a tip for those who say the sauce was watery. Place a clean kitchen towel draped over the open crockpot and then place the lid on the pot. The towel will soak up the steam and evaporation and help with this. You can do this with other crock pot foods as well that tend to water down. In the case of this sauce, be prepared to stain the towel.

Smashed Cauliflower

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2011
I do not understand why this recipe is being touted as healthy, figure friendly etc. It sounds good, I will make it, but I doubt it is healthier and lower in calories than plain old mashed potatoes due to the butter, cheeses etc. Who are we kidding?

Asian Lettuce Wraps

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2011
Really tasty and a nice change of pace. My grocery did not have Hoisin sauce, so I substituted oyster sauce from the Asian food aisle with a generous squeeze of honey. Worked just fine. Served with buttered hot jasmine rice and a side of cold crisp freshjumbo radishes sprinkled with kosher salt from Whole Foods. Thanks for recipe, will make again I am sure.

Chicken Pot Pie II

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2010
Terrible! I used fresh cream, whole milk, lovely veggies and white meat chicken. The only edible part of the pot pie was the store bought top crust. How the rest could have turned out watery and dry at the same time is a mystery. Bottom of the pie was watery, the meat/veg mix was dry and mealy. What a dissapointment

Sausage, Peppers, Onions, and Potato Bake

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2010
A first generation Italian friend of mine used to make something very similar to this for me and I have been longing for it. She did used carrots too. I think she called it "JhamBaht" (that is a phonetical spelling). It is really delicious and for me at least a recipe that will endure the test of time.

Neat Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2010
good. Grandkids ate it right up. Did not put celery in it since they hate it. It was a little sweet (probably why they liked it so much) and it needed some black pepper. I will make it again with a little less brown sugar. Thanks for the recipe. I wont buy the packaged seasoning again thanks to you.
