Authentic German Bread (Bauernbrot)

Reviewed: May 7, 2010
My starter is kind of weak I guess - even though it's all bubbly when warm - but I have tried this bread twice and it never rose sufficiently. I suppose I will have to try it with the starter in the recipe at one point, but the thing is, for people who already have a starter, this recipe lacks the quantity you will really need of it, and a lot of people may in fact already have a starter and are just looking for new and different recipes. Thus the 4 stars. The taste is good though, I think if it is nicely risen and moist, it will probably be just like good old German bread - provided you add some bread spice.

Lusty Lime Virgin

Reviewed: May 7, 2010
This was great! Very sweet, but balanced out with tartness and the slightly funny taste of the diet coke - which was perfect though! Next time I think I might try and substitute the coke for something else, but I liked it as it was.

Mock Champagne

Reviewed: May 7, 2010
This was a great deal too sweet for all of us. So for those who want something even remotely reminiscent of a champagne-like tartness and complexity, I do not recommend this. It is probably a good choice for a kid's party though.

Cran-Dandy Cooler

Reviewed: May 7, 2010
This was awesome. Sweet, but awesome. The cranberry juice added the necessary balance to the sweetness.

Ann's Dirty Rice

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2010
This is a wonderful basic recipe! I did it pretty much exactly as stated, only added some Worcester sauce later and a bit of grated cheese and the man loved it. :) I will definitely be making this again, and also experiment with the ingredients.

Boiled Bagels

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2010
These are WONDERFUL, and this was the first time I ever made bagels! I replaced a little less than half the flour with whole wheat, so I needed 1/2 cup of flour less than stated in the recipe, and as other reviewers had suggested, I made 8 bagels instead of 12 and they look, smell, and taste PERFECT. I am completely happy. I boiled them in a deep, wide skillet. This way I fit 4 big bagels at once, which was very convenient. Thanks so much for the easy and awesome recipe!

Chicken and Red Bell Pepper Salad Sandwiches

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2010
This was very easy to make, and since it is very basic, you can add whatever you like to spice it up a little bit. The perfect recipe to fill those hungry mouths if you don't have many ingredients at home.

Slow Cooker Tapioca Pudding

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2010
I had large pearl tapioca, but if worked perfectly with pre-soaking them in one of the cups of milk overnight. The flavour was a tad too eggy for my taste, and the pudding was a bit thicker than I like it, but those are things I can adjust in future. Other than that, thanks a bunch for the awesome idea, it works quite well in the slow cooker!

Sourdough Bread I

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2010
I think I had a bit of a weak starter, but the bread still came out fine. It browned awfully quickly, so I think I took it out a tad too early, but it was still okay. Even though I only used 1/4 cup of sugar, it was still a bit too sweet for my taste, but then again I have spoilt German taste buds when it comes to bread. ;) Overall, this is a nice and easy recipe which is suitable for sourdough newbies like me.
