I grew up in a rural area in the Upper Pennisula of Michigan where my mom often let me help her in the kitchen cooking fresh vegetables from our family garden. I'm now a mom (and wife), and still love to cook! I didn't choose it as a profession, but sometimes wonder what it would be like if I had. I'm a vegetarian, and my husband is a carnivour which makes meal time at our house very diverse and interesting!
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook soups! I also enjoy dabbling in internation cuisine. Whipping up something new for the BBQ on a hot summer day is wonderful too! I love using my own home grown herbs in my recipes! My #1 favorite part of cooking is baking with my son - licking beaters (pre-egg), watching him eat cookies fresh out of the oven, but mostly bringing a smile to his face with something we made together!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking with family and friends! Listening to music, having a glass of wine, and using my special chef knife that I only use on occassions!
My cooking triumphs
Being able to cook vegetarian and carnivour at each meal (not to mention the occassional toddler accomodation as well).
My cooking tragedies
The first pumpkin pie I ever made blew up after I took it out of the oven (all over the countertop). I'm still not certain what I did wrong! I also attempted to make Lobster Bisque - the directions didn't say to hold the blender top on tightly, so when I started to blend the heat blew the cap off and bisque went everywhere!
