Mexican Style Cornbread

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2013
Made this for my husband and two of his friends... They LOVED it, ate the whole skillet in one sitting! We're currently in the UK and I couldn't find buttermilk so I used 1tbsp of vinegar in a 1 cup measure, filled the rest of the cup with milk, let sit for a couple minutes before using. Also couldn't find creamed corn, so I used some frozen corn instead. Finally found cornmeal here under the label "maize meal" in a health food store... A finer grain than polenta, which is like yellow corn meal and also found in health food stores here. Well worth the trouble! Simple to make, everyone loved it! Very moist.

Spicy Deviled Eggs

Reviewed: May 28, 2011
This was fantastic! I left off the olives and added minced onion for a bit of crunch. Tried another top-rated deviled eggs recipe on the site that was disappointing, and made this recipe after the other flopped, just in time for our get-together. It didn't disappoint, lots of flavour!

Ninety Minute Cinnamon Rolls

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2010
Excellent recipe, baked them together in a round cakepan instead of muffin tins because I figured this would leave them more moist, had great results. Used the cream cheese icing recipe left in the comment by the first review listed after the recipe, first time making it and it was good but next time I'd add more cream cheese. Delectable rolls even after they've cooled.

Special Lemonade

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2010
Excellent flavour! Used my juicer instead of blender which was handy (for those out there with juicers) but you Must strain it. Also it's best served fresh to enjoy the carbonation of the club soda. While the liquid sits for a half hour I would chill it next time in the fridge to make a colder drink without having to add ice.

Herb Roasted Pork Loin and Potatoes

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2011
Very good, a simple, jet classic, comfort-food sort of recipe. Used my slow cooker on low for 8 hours and the pork was tender and the potatoes just perfect. There was enough juice to make a gravy. Fantastic!

Rhubarb Custard Pie IV

Reviewed: May 17, 2011
Very good - I doubled the recipe for my large pie plate, but I didn't quite double the sugar. Next time I would probably increase the rhubarb and omit the nutmeg for a slightly more tart, rhubarb-y flavour. Good all the same!

Slow Cooker Chicken Mole

Reviewed: May 4, 2011
Nice flavour, but very hot. This was after I removed the chipotle chilis from the adobo sauce as it was very hot on it's own. We couldn't taste the cocoa and I believe it's supposed to have a chocolate flavour to it? Nice just the same but I recommend severely reducing the peppers (can size isn't listed in recipe) and increasing cocoa.

Braised Lamb Shanks

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2010
Didn't have four shanks so I halved the liquid and it was too vinegar-y! I like balsamic vinegar but this was completely over-powering. With the wine you probably only need to add a shot of vinegar for flavour.

Chunky Tomato Potato Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2010
Not great: I followed the instructions exactly and left out only the corn starch, which wouldn't have impacted the flavour anyway, which was blandish. Too much celery flavour, not enough spice. Edible, but won't make this again.
