So, I'm happy to report that I've completed my first full week of "cooking through my recipe box" and I've made 17 recipes so far!! I'm really happy with my progress. I didn't expect to make so many in one week. Plus, as an added bonus, by shopping sales
and using things I already had in my…
I started cooking around the time I turned 20, and have been honing my skills for the past five years. I am in no way an expert, but I enjoy trying out new recipes and discovering new tasty combinations.
My favorite things to cook
I've been trying to cook healthier lately, though I have no problem indulging every once in a while. I love recipes that are quick to get on the table, since I work late and commute a substantial distance to get home. However, I love breaking out more in-depth recipes on the weekend.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom never cooked much when I was growing up, but my grandma was an amazing cook and baker, so my desire to learn how to cook sprung from her. She would make the most amazing cookies and desserts, and you always had to go to her house hungry, because she'd feed you whether you liked it or not! I doubt I'll ever be quite as good as her, but at least it's a goal to work towards.
My cooking triumphs
I make a mean marinated grilled chicken, and my roasted veggies (particularly kale, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts) have earned raves from my boyfriend (which is really saying something!)
My cooking tragedies
Sugar cookie cutouts are the bane of my existence. I'm not sure if I just haven't found the right recipe or if I simply don't possess the gene needed to make them. I always run into trouble when it comes to rolling the dough. Still, I won't give up (not sure if this is perseverance or stupidity)and I'm going to make a decent batch of them, even if it kills me...which it just might.
