Cranberry Flax Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2014
I LOVE these! I feel good about eating them because of the ingredients and they make a lovely breakfast muffin. I've made and shared them lots and get a ton of positive feedback and recipe requests. They are moist, flavourful and healthy... What more could you want?

Lamb Chops with Balsamic Reduction

Now this was some good use of lamb chops! Made recipe exactly as it is posted and wouldn't change a thing next time!

Megan's Granola

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2011
Great base recipe! I like how I can add anything I want and it'll still taste good every time! The only issue I have with this recipe: It makes a huge batch and it WILL go stale after about 2 weeks.

Buttermilk Pound Cake II

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2011
I thought I'd try this for a change but found the cake dry on the inside and the crust was very crunchy. Also, the cake stuck to my pan so much that I couldn't get it out 10 minutes after it came out of the oven despite having greased the pan (and not after 30 minutes either). I consider myself a very experienced baker but this recipe did not do it for me.

Strawberry Spinach Salad I

Reviewed: May 12, 2011
Fantastic flavour! I used 3/4 of the sugar called for in this recipe though, and I still found it a little too sweet. However, I will for sure keep making this salad with less sugar in the dressing!

Ukrainian Red Borscht Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2010
This is delicious and the fact that it is loaded with nutrition is even better! I like a more chunky soup so I cubed the beets instead of shredding them, but other than that I followed the recipe to a 't'.

Gourmet Mushroom Risotto

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2010
I thought I made this just like the recipe said to make it but I just realized I forgot the Parmesan cheese. Oops. Having said that, I would forget again again on purpose next time as we are not Parmesan cheese fans at all. This recipe is SO flavourful and delicious, I would make it again in a heartbeat. 6 stars!

Oatmeal Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2010
I tried these cookies with only some minor alterations. I used butter instead of shortening and made sure the amount of oats and flour were heaping cups. They turned out absolutely gorgeous and tasted even better. I highly recommend these!

Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2010
A 9x5 pan, REALLY? I followed this recipe completely as written. I already suspected a problem when I put the batter in the loaf pan and it was filled just about to the top. But hey, 5 stars and listed as a dense bread, so maybe it's ok? Nope. This is a lovely recipe but don't make the mistake of using a 9x5 pan. I will definitely make this recipe again in a larger pan!

Penne with Chicken and Asparagus

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2010
I made this exactly as the recipe stated but I found it dry and it tasted like 4 ingredients were just dumped together (chicken, asparagus, pasta, and Parmesan cheese) without any sort of sauce or complimenting flavors. I love cooking and experimenting, this was a fail. I'd save the ingredients for a better recipe!

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2010
I thought this was just like any other lasagna I have made but my husband had a friend over and both of the guys were raving about this recipe. That's enough reason to give this 5 stars. The only thing I changed about this recipe is that I used over-ready noodles which saved me a bit of work and mess and I would do it all over again in the future. What an easy way of pleasing the guys!

Whole Grain Waffles

Made these exactly as written. I found that the flavour was great but that they were soggy. Having said that, I would make them again.

Heavenly Chocolate Mousse

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2010
This was a fantastic recipe! I didn't follow the directions completely. I still had a log of Bernard Callebaut chocolate in the freezer and thought I'd use it for this recipe - I have no idea how much chocolate it was exactly. Oh my heavens, the end result was phenomenal. Now that I'd spoiled myself I don't think I can go back to a cheap chocolate mousse.

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2010
5 star recipe. I even made significant changes to it and it turned out awesome! I used 1/2 whole wheat flour and added onion powder, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning to the salt/oil mixture. I didn't use even close to 3+ cups of flour. I started with the 2.5 cups and then only added a little afterward so that it wasn't sticky anymore. I also put the crust in the over @425 for 7 minutes before adding the topping. Delicious and I'll definitely make it again!

Banana Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2010
Flavor was fine and I LOVE how it was SO easy to make with ingredients most people would have in their house at any time. I found, however, that as it was baking the top of the bread was cracked and sticking up etc. I also prefer a banana bread with slightly more spices in them - like cinnamon and cloves. This is not my favorite recipe, but it's a good and easy one!

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2010
Great flavor! I added red pepper, corn, and a potato. Made the crust from scratch and couldn't have wished for better. My red meat eater husband kept asking for more and said it was delicious. Quite simple to make and well worth the effort!

Carrot Cake III

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2010
No complaints at all about the flavour. This recipe tasted better than I could have hoped for - forget about going to the local bakery for fresh baked goods, this trumps it hands down. The only 2 issues I had with this recipe: 1) Half the amount of icing would have been plenty. I used only half and I'll probably make another cake for the other half of the icing. Can you imagine...4 cups of sugar on top of a sugar loaded cake? Yikes, can't do that. 2) My cake slightly caved in the center. Delicious flavour though!

Curried Coconut Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2010
I followed the recipe to the 'T' but still found it too runny after all the cooking time (even uncovered). Decided to thicken with cornstarch. The flavour, however, was phenomenal. It may not be as spicy or bland as some of you like but that's for each of you to adjust to personal taste. I highly recommend this and I agree that I prefer this over a meal at a restaurant. Served this with roasted red pepper. Delicious and very good to serve for dinner guests!

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2010
This recipe has phenomenal flavour. I didn't add cinnamon or nutmeg or any other spices, I only used the ingredients the recipe called for. I used granny smiths and I wouldn't pick another apple for my next pie. The only reason this pie wasn't perfect was because it was quite runny. The crust was done right and was perfect and not soggy. However, when I cut the pie (it was still warm) the juices just flooded to the bottom of the pie plate. As a result, the pieces didn't look pretty but instead were more sort of 'plopped' onto a plate with icecream. Didn't look as pretty as I had hoped but even considering all that I would still make it again and I'd be happy if it turned out the same as it did this time around. I am excited about how great it was - it was my very first pie ever and I even made the crust from scratch!
