Salmon Burgers with Lemon Basil Mayo

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2013
This turned out to be crispy on the outside, savory on the inside, and a delicious salmon burger. The aoli was a great compliment to this burger, and I made mine to look just like the one in the picture. Quick tip for this recipe. When done making each patty, lightly coat each side in flour. Put in freezer for about 10 minutes prior to frying. This, along with the egg, helps it stay together and not stick to spatula when placing in pan. Addt'l tip: I made a simpler version for my wife, who doesn't like onion or green pepper. I replaced these with onion powder and paprika, still turned out great for her patties.

Penne with Chicken and Pesto

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2012
This recipe is really good as is. One tip: Just before serving, break off Feta cheese chunks in the dish.

Sausage Stuffed Jalapenos

Reviewed: May 30, 2012
I wanted to give these a high mark, because I love jalapenos and love filled jalapenos even more. However, these didn't not come through for me. The presentation was good, with a creamy texture with the crisp jalapeno. However, the overall flavor fell short for me. Creative, but not a 5 star.

Brown Sugar Smokies

Reviewed: May 30, 2012
Wow! These turned out great. I was skeptical at first, but now a true believer. These have a fantastic taste with the brown sugar turning into a carmeling sort of coating. Come to think of it, I shall make these again this weekend, I think. Yum, yum!

Crescent-Wrapped Brie

Reviewed: May 30, 2012
This is a simple yet sophisticated recipe. The presentaiton is impressive for guests and makes it taste all that much better. For brie cheese lovers, serving this as is, without flavors goes over best. I have served this with a cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving, which was a hit as well.

Buffalo Chicken Burgers with Blue Cheese Dressing

Reviewed: May 30, 2012
I'm giving this recipe 5 stars for the sauce alone. My wife always asks me to make this Blue Cheese dressing for chix wings, burgers, and many dishes. BAM! A great sauce.

White Sauce for Pasta

Reviewed: May 30, 2012
This recipe nails the basic premise for a white sauce. I now use this recipe regularly as a base for many types of pasta sauces: italian-style cheese sauce, alfredo sauce, pesto cream sauce, cheddar sauce, and more. Thanks for the recipe!

Crabby Cream Cheese Wontons

Reviewed: May 30, 2012
At first, these were great. After a few more times, I came to dislike the color of the filling that turned dark from the soy sauce and worchestershire. I appreciated the sesame oil flavoring, but at the end of day, I long for the pure flavors of cream cheese and crab.

New York Italian Pizza Dough

Reviewed: May 30, 2012
Best pizza crust my wife and I have eaten in a long time. This crust turns out like the authentic italian pizza style. We use garlic alfredo sauce and four cheeses to get the best pizza we have had in a long time.

Chef John's Buttermilk Fried Chicken

Reviewed: May 30, 2012
Chef John - I promise I will try these again and upgrade my rating if it works out. Could be that my novice cooking skills failed me here. My chicken turned out burnt, and in trying a second batch, was done cooking through at 14 minutes. At 14 minutes is when the chicken would burn. I had a thermometer to ensure right temp. My best guess at what went wrong was my attempt to raise the oil temp back to 350 after chicken was inserted and lowered the temp to 300. Keeping at 300 will be the key.

Yogurt Cheese

Reviewed: May 30, 2012
This recipe was so much fun to make. I took some viewers tips and squeezed the yoghurt for about 30 minutes to speed up the process. Next time, I will let sit in the fridge. The result is a nice, spreadable cheese with surprisingly strong flavor.

Quick and Easy Grilled Potatoes

Reviewed: May 30, 2012
My wife loved these. I didn't but that is because I really don't like baked potatoes - they are too bland and dry for me. But, for my wife who likes very few things, but potatoes one of them - she rates this a big 5 for taste, crispiness of skin, and presentation.

I have cooked this 5 times since I first tried this recipe a few weeks ago. So simple to make and really delicious. This is one of those recipes that matches restaurant quality food with an authentic Italian taste. And, to the recipe writer - thanks for such clear directions and tips. Cheers!

Pesto Cream Sauce

Reviewed: May 30, 2012
This was a delicious and easy sauce. Pesto is actually a high calorie ingredient, but as most high calorie foodstuffs go, it is also mouth-wateringly delicious. Love the simplicity of this recipe and the taste.

Old Time Popcorn Balls

Reviewed: May 30, 2012
These were exactly the recipe I was looking for to make the same popcorn balls as I had as a kid. The taste of these brought back a summer watching Superman while eating colored versions of these popcorn balls. Tip: If first time making the hard candy, be patient. The water you add from the recipe basically boils off and gives you the hard candy syrup at the end. Took me about 20 minutes of boiling to finally reach the hard ball stage.

Oaxacan Tacos

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2011
Indeed, the other reviewers were right, this recipe had surprising flavor. The wife and I were skeptics in the beginning, thinking the lack of cumin, cayenne, and chili powder would make this bland. The lime, salt, pepper on the steak was the right combination. The jalapenos add just the kick it needed. We served with shredded chedderella, tobasco (for extra heat), and onion/tomato to balance out the heat. This one is a keeper.

Classic Pancakes

Reviewed: May 14, 2011
Nice recipe - I used 2% milk instead of Silk as did not have Silk available to me in Shanghai. Added in 1 1/2 tsp Vanilla to complement milk. Tasted just like store-bought pancake mix.

Peppered Shrimp Alfredo

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2011
The reviews said it all. My wife rated this 6 stars, the highest rating she has given out of any recipe cooked on this. I skipped the onions as the wife doesn't like them, and used a tsp of Onion Powder to help make up the loss - worked out well, I think.

Skillet Pasta and Beef Dinner

Nice combination with this dish. Reminds me of goulash. This is a quick, easy meal, and makes for good leftovers over the following two days. This was a good "comfort food" dish for the week.

Grilled Peppers

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2010
This recipe exceeded my expectations. I give extra stars to the addition of the jalapeno peppers, specically the jarred jalapenos. The brine flavor of the jarred ones really rounds out the flavor of these. The grilled peppers taste great, the cheese on them tastes great, and the jalapenos add the sweetness and zing that make them 5+ stars. This is my top grill recipe for a side now. Thanks!
